Merit Scholarship=Admissions?

I just received an email from Cal Alumni Association inviting me to apply for The Leadership Award.

Does this boost my chance of being accepted to UC Berkeley in any way?
How much does this reflect the decision I'll be getting?

I also got that. Doesn’t seem like it means anything about whether we got in. But if it changes anything, I’m rank 4/500 in my class and have a 2320 SAT

My S also recieved one. I too want to know what it means with regards to chance of admission. However, my S stats are not all that great. 3.5 GPA and 2200 SAT.

^That about seals the deal, I don’t think it means anything. Plus, if you go onto the website, you’ll see that anyone can apply, not just those who received the email.

“Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.”

^ This was the small print in the email.

If it doesn’t mean anything, did everyone GT an email? Or did they just go to some?

Sent from my Xoom using CC App

Yeah I feel like it does have to have some weight… they have to had picked people with decent grades/scores and good EC’s. I doubt that every single applicant received an email…

Any people from last year who can comment?

D got one too. Means nothing plus these scholarships are only available to those that 1. Applied for the scholarship, 2. Got into the school. Hence they will wait until the Admissions office decisions are in.

I’m pretty sure everyone with a 3.3 GPA or higher got the email, as having a 3.3 GPA is one of its requirements. Anyone having trouble getting to it?

Everyone got that email I’m pretty sure.

anybody can apply for the Cal Alumni Association Scholarship. an invitation to apply does not “seal the deal” as the Cal Alumni Association does not decide on Cal acceptance. the only one that is a guaranteed acceptance - before the acceptance notification comes out - is when you get a notification that you are selected as Regents Scholarship finalist. Local/InState finalists get an invitation for an interview and overnight stay/day tour. usually, around 1000 finalists, and some 200 are selected. good luck to everyone!
