Hey everyone! I just got into the TAP program with Berkeley. I go to Ohlone College and I was wondering if anyone from O.C. is part of it or another college in the South Bay a part of it as well. Also, for those of you who were a part of TAP, can you tell me how your experience was and did it help you get to Cal? Any success stories in other words? Would love to hear feedback from you all!!! Thanks again.
The campus claims about an 80% acceptance rate from Berkeley TAP.
Is it true you need a 3.0 GPA to join?
I don’t know what, if any, minimum GPA is required, but you need to (1) be at one of the participating CCCs, and (2) you need to be interviewed by a TAP representative.
Here’s a link (participating CCCs on the left panel):

Thank you, I’ll be sure to talk to the rep next time she’s at my CCC.
Hey @lindyk8 quick question. If I attend a CCC and I’m an international student, not first generation, but Indian, would I be eligible for TAP? I think I would be, but I’m not able to find proof anywhere. I know its for CCC students but what about Indian students? I know for sure that Indians are 0.7% while transferring to UCs.
My guess is that you wouldn’t. That statistic is probably regarding international indian transfers to UC’s from CCC. Asian’s populate a huge share share of the UC system. (I think it averages out to about 40% of all UC students are Asian, thr label Indians falls under.)
There is also the fact that if you’re an International student in America you would have had to show you can pay the high international tuition fees. UCB TAP is aimed towards helping the students who do not have the time and/or resources to adequately prepare for transfer.
@crseven Good question. I tend to think they wouldn’t. And @Orangered123 brings up a good point: you can’t be both low income and paying int’l tuition.
Also, I think they mean Native American when referring to Indian.

–> It’s more like African American Hispanic, Native American.
Hey all. Just curious, I was told that by being a part of the TAP program it gives you an edge compared to other students who weren’t a part of it, is this true?
@ucboundtransfer I think it does because you get support and one-on-one help. So you get your application in really good shape. They claim an acceptance rate of about 80%. In terms of specific nuts and bolts behind the scenes, I cannot say.
The biggest thing is that TAP advisors know exactly what admissions people are looking for and they can help guide you in the right direction.
It’s an educational prep program too, so it can look good in the sense that you’re taking additional opportunities to prepare and succeed.
In impacted majors though it probably doesn’t do too much of anything beyond make sure the applicant is well-prepared.
