Hello everyone! Im new here and this fall Im trying to apply to UC Berkeley as a transfer student from a CCC. Let me know what you think of my chances.
GPA: 3.6 (Gender Studies)
IGETC completed
Low income/1st generation
I have 4 transcripts from different college because I had to move around a lot. I found myself homeless a few times due to financial difficulty. I also have a lot of W’s on my transcript (about 10) from going have 3 complicated surgeries and my families health.
Work Experience:
- Worked as a CNA full time while attending college. I worked in a variety of environments including hospice, assisted living, and home care. (1000+ hours)
- Worked as a EKG technician (1000+ hours)
Volunteering/EC’s:
- Volunteer at local hospital (200+ hours)
- Shadowed several physicians (50 hours)
- Volunteered at several sporting events
- I run cross country/track
- Participated in the St Baldricks Foundation (Donated my hair and raised over $500.00)
- Organized a Turkey Drive in my hometown to collect food for families in need during the Thanksgiving season
How many units have you completed? I think that without at least 60 semester units, none of the other stuff matters.
Here is the link for the academic requirements for transfer applicants:

I think that you are a really strong applicant. I believe that with the combination of your work experience, GPA and your EC’s, you are definite strong applicant. Depending on the quality of your essays, I think you have a strong shot of getting in. But, depending on the GPAs of the applicants you’re competing against, I think your essays will play a big role in your admission and/or denial to Berkeley. Also, your prereqs are the most important, so if you have those done, you’ll have a much better chance of getting in.
Good luck!
I just submitted my application for UCLA, Berkeley, UCSC, and UCSB… I answered all 5 of the short essays. i have over 800 hours of community service since graduating high school.
