UC Berkeley Transfer Thread 2018

@flaminhaute I don’t need more salt this is making my blood pressure high enough already

@futjewlaw i’ll put you up first with me in a close second. I’m thinking an suv for maximum impact?

@flaminhaute The Alumni Scholarship email! But it seems like some people have 2 addresses but were still invited to apply for the scholarship. I wonder if those people will be waitlisted? IDK

@inspiredbysleep i have 4 and i got the alumni email yes

I have four addresses, I may be going crazy but I think I might have had them the whole time? Damnit I don’t remember lol, I did not get an alumni scholarship invitation.

Econ Major, Last name starts W/ W, attending CCC in NorCal

This p!$$es me off that CCC students transferring are discounted as less deserving than those that got in as freshmen, and I know its a thing because I went to a top high school and thats how everyone was when you said you were going to community college, so condescending. The fact is my best friend sort of unconsciously acts like that too, she goes to Berkeley and it feels like my hard work is discounted because I didn’t get in straight out of high school. There is this sense of entitlement and ignorance, where those kids, the ones who have no life experience, used to be one of them in high school, we lived in a bubble to say the least, are ignorant of the struggles other kids face, sometimes it’s due to economic issues, family issues, and sometimes it’s a matter of growing up. Hard work does not equate natural intelligence, or inherent superiority, and its not a whoever starting working harder first deserves better than everyone else. This always irritates me when I talk to people I knew in high school who think that way, partially because I used to think that way. Everyone on this thread deserves to get in, we’ve all worked hard and done our best to achieve our goals and be who we wanted to be, and I’m proud to have known all of you, even if its under usernames online. To $cr#w all those entitled kids that need to grow up, we deserve a spot wherever we get in, and I am more than happy to enlighten them on what stuck up spoiled rich kids they’re being. You are all amazing, ignore them, it says more about their insecurity and immaturity than us when they put us down. Go Transfers!

Two addresses but received the Alumni Scholarship email

@hailey5799 my biggest regret is NOT going to CCC after being rejected to the schools I wanted to go to. I sit and watch as all my CCC friends moved onto Berkeley, USC, UCLA, etc and I know I wasted two years at a CSU! The stigma of CC needs to end, I’ve met so many hardworking and deserving people here. It’s really the destination not the journey.

PS—two addresses and I don’t think I’m getting in so this may be the working trick.

Same, two addresses but got the Alumni Scholarship email.

I don’t think the Alumni scholarship means anything. I got the email, I think it’s just a matter of what you marked on your application like did you check the box to let them give your info to the alumni association

@getoutmeswamp I’m loving the comments on that article. Many ccc professors speaking out and even UCB professors speaking out saying that some of their best students were CCC transfers. “Weeder courses” ha! At most universities, you’re taught by TA and adjunct. My Econ professor holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. In his late 30s and already semi-retired, hence why he’s teaching at a CC. Hardest damn classes I have ever taken. Half the class dropped by midterms. He specifically warned the class early on that since its a U.C. transferable class that he would teach it as if we were taking it at a U.C. He wasn’t lying.

@flaminhaute when you first posted you said the addresses went from 2-4-2 again. where did you read this?? link?

On that note, do you guys think decisions might be released earlier than expected? I know they said no later than 4/27 and the portal says on or before. If I recall correctly the 2-4-2 pattern wasn’t noticed until the night before 4/28 last year

Yeah, and when did they go back to two? Maybe some people only seeing two already went from 2-4 back to 2? There’s a lot of posters that received an invite to apply for the alumni scholarship only showing 2. I didn’t get the invite but have 4?

@inspiredbysleep Last year’s thread

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/search?discussionid=1887909&search=Address

I feel like I’ve caused mass panic. I owe you all boba! I’m sorry!

@flaminhaute can we get boba before i get hit by a car? i dont want to miss boba

@GoldenState1 I agree! It’s so frustrating, because I’m taking 6 classes, 20 credits, and working 25 hours a week with family responsibilities, my best friend in Berkeley takes 3 classes, dropped her fourth, does some professional fraternity and one club, but she equates the workload to mine, its the unspoken insinuation because she’s at Berkeley and I’m not that her classes are harder than mine. And I’m like please, I have professors that teach at Berkeley and other UCs with Ph.D’s from top universities, classes that are so hard that half the class drops, last semester we started with 45 students, had 8 by the end of the semester in my Calc 1 class, I pulled a B but I worked my a$$ off for it, and yet because I’m at a CCC its all discounted.

Based on what I’m seeing in last years thread, those who had 4 addresses got in. Again, i just picked a few individuals. Let me know if you notice something different.

@OhWhatsHerName I watched so many friends make the same choice because they were afraid of the stigma of going to a community college, and the thing is I know they want more, they want better, but they chose differently. There are so many hardworking deserving people in CCC’s, but people discount it because we’re not forking over 30k per year for tuition, I think people complain about money but they don’t take the more economically efficient way to get the same education, some people its that, others its family issues and I feel for those people too because I have friends at CCC where that’s why they’re at CCC because they have cr#p going on, and others like me it was a matter of needing to grow up and wanting more, and this is what I chose. It is a part of the journey, and I am honestly better for it, I needed this year at CCC to be honest, and I am appreciative of it, because I was able to grow in a way I wouldn’t have if I had gone straight to university.
