So, I’m currently a California Community College transfer looking to transfer to schools in California.
I took a college class in high school for no reason and received a really bad grade. I decided to head into community college after high school. Thus far, I have a 4.0, but the poor grade I received in a course I took in the same community college lowered my GPA to a 3.9.
Are colleges really going to hold that bad grade against me, especially since I took that particular college course in high school with no intention of using it to transfer. It was a course that is not related to my major whatsoever.
I’m worried because I really want to get into Berkley’s Haas School of Business and that school is really competitive to get into. I only know of transfer students with 4.0’s getting into that program.
Thanks.
From your other thread: You already retook it and got a B- so you had the opportunity to fix it…so to answer your question if it’s UC transferable, then they will use it “against” you.
@SDGoldenBear I retook it during high school, will that still count toward my transfer GPA? Thanks.
Yes they will. Dual enrolled students are not that rare and the fact that you took it the second time indirectly shows that you took it seriously.
@SDGoldenBear Thanks for the responses. Do you think I can write something in the additional comments section in the UC application to address that I never planned to use this class as transfer credit and took it for fun during High School, or should I just leave it alone?
All in all, I wouldn’t worry about it. Even with Haas. One grade from high school that lowered you to 3.9 will not be a determining factor. They will consider, as well, your essays and extra-curriculars, esepcially as they relate to leadership.
