UC Computer Science admission

Hi,

I’m a junior in high school and an aspiring CS major (since my passion is computer programming). Currently I have 2 AP’s and let’s say I do one to two more next year. I have straight A’s (weighted GPA 4.33, non-weighted 4.00) and suppose I maintain that throughout this and next year. I am in my school’s Robotics Club in the coding department and I have 6-7 volunteer hrs on Zooniverse, a science web portal. I plan to take a few online certified courses on CS because I want to learn more about it and related fields. I also plan to do online community service volunteering (this year or next year). Am I on track to get admission into a UC (preferably UCSD or UC Irvine but other UC’s are fine) in the CS major or related majors , provided I get a 1500+ on SAT and I write a great application essay? Thank you.

CS at the UC’s is highly competitive. Your GPA is on track.
The UC’s are test blind this admission cycle so they may remain that way for next year. Definitely prepare for the SAT to give you options beyond the UC’s.

HS course rigor is Very Important so definitely challenge yourself. Depending upon what your HS offers in terms of AP classes, your course rigor could be lacking.

The UC’s have their own GPA calculation which includes 3 GPA’s and only use 10-11th grades.

Continue to be involved in your EC’s and show some leadership in these activities.

Do not focus on one or two schools but have a balanced college list of a couple of safety, match and Reach schools.
Come back at end of Junior year and see where you stand.

Keep up the good work.
