UC Davis 2022 Rejection

My son was also rejected. The email said with almost 78,000 applicants UCD could enroll a freshman class of nearly 5,900. From what I know that is a significantly lower percentage than normal!

@Calm13: UCD wants a target enrollment of 5900, so depending upon their historical yield, they will accept around 3X as many applicants. With an increase in applications and their target of 5900 Freshman, their acceptance will still be lower than last years.

@Gumbymom Thanks. Completely spaced on the accepted vs. enrolled consideration. 8-}

Most of the students that in the past were accepted to Cal, UCLA, UCSD were also accepted everywhere else in the UC system. It would not make sense for a school to sacrifice itself for the sake of the ones that already have stellar reputations and as a consequence applications from more competitive students.

Popular California schools usually have impacted majors, meaning that popular majors (like psychology and engineering) will have slightly different acceptance requirements/rates than their others. Psych is a super competitive major at most UCs, so most of the people admitted with psych majors are veeeerrrryy competitive.

I am sure you have heard from other schools by now. Where did you get accepted?

The idea that Davis denies top students to make room for students with lower academic performances is ludicrous. UC Davis is one of the best public universities in the nation: top 15 amongst public schools and top 50 amongst all national universities. Davis simply has a competitive admissions process. I’m surprised to read that so many students thought of Davis as a back up school.

Don’t lose hope. I was rejected from Davis 2 years ago, now as a transfer I’ve been invited for Regents (tbh they might do that for everyone I have no clue!) and I’m waiting to hear back from many more UCs. If your heart is set on Davis, I really suggest community college and then TAGing. It’s super easy.
