Rejected UC Davis and UC San Diego, Any Chance here?

I'm so nervous guys. I got flat out rejected from UC Davis and San Diego. I'm a Computer Engineering major, by the way.

3.128 Unweighted, 3.64 UC GPA [Huge Upward Trend: 2.8 fresh -> 4.2 Junior]
33 ACT (35 English 36 Math 32 Reading 30 Science)
790 Math SAT 2

One essay is on how I matured over the summer when I visited India, other one is how I make YouTube videos on technology to share my passion with others. Essays are pretty good in my opinion.

Too lazy to post ECs, but they're pretty decent. I'd say 7.5-9ish out of 10. Essays probably 8-9ish out of 10.

Any chance at UCI for engineering? I'm extremely worried, as are my parents.

I got rejected from ucd and ucsd too…i really hope i can get into uci…anyways good luck to all of you who didnt receive results yet!

Don’t worry. Every school is different so they weigh things differently. Don’t get discouraged! Good luck!

I’m in the same boat as you guys. Really hoping for Irvine

Apparently the 21st-24th is the last batch for acceptances. At least from past applicants who applied to UCI.

@ TheNexus Our resumes are pretty similar. I got rejected from UCD and UCSD as well, and am hoping I get into UCI as a last resort. Did you get into any other UCs?

I didn’t apply to UC Santa Cruz or Riverside. I did SB and up. Now that I got rejected Davis and SD, all I have hope for is SB or Irvine.

How are my chances, guys?

Same here guys :(

Looks like its ucr/csu or I’ll just move to Columbia.

Do UCs put an extra weight on GPA? It seems like no one is getting into the better UCs with a low GPA.

High SAT low Gpa is an indicator of laziness.

The UC’s consider GPA more heavily than test scores. IMO, UCI has generally been the more forgiving one of the three “mid-tier” campuses, as far as GPA is concerned. Don’t worry. There’s always a chance still.

Do you guys know if UCI sends decisions for people who got supplementals last? B/c mostly they’re borderline.

Yes you have a chance. If you haven’t gotten a supplemental questionnaire though I’d be wary. But all campuses weigh things differently, and as far as the UC system goes, UCI is arguably the most holistic as far as admissions go. Best of luck!

@xcyl40, nope. Admissions are released by major after the initial honors/CHP run.

UC’s put a lot of weight on GPA. I was waitlisted at UCD, accepted at UCSC, and rejected at UCSD. I think my rejection and being waitlisted was mainly due to me being OOS. Irvine asked for a supplemental, so I’m hoping that I either get into Irvine or UCSB. I wasn’t nervous during the months leading up to admissions, this last week I’ve been pretty nervous/anxious.

They do put a lot of weight on GPA. But if you got the supplemental, that’s a good sign. UCs that send out the supplemental do so because they understand that even intelligent and capable students face obstacles and that a GPA is not necessarily an indicator of intelligence/capability/motivation. Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI all send out supplementals.

I didn’t get a supplemental, extremely worried.

Similar stats to the OP, who’s a good friend of mine.

I got into SC, rejected Davis, and wait listed for SD so far.

@ whoopsitsauser I didn’t get a supplemental questionnaire. When and how were you supposed to get it?

I never got a supplemental application either.

@Ahmer, I have similar stats as you and theNexus as well, along with decent ECs and decent personal statements. Hopefully we all get in.

@StaticRoar
You get it either by special talent, disability, or borderline. You get an email saying you got it and answer two questions. Only selected Freshmen applicants get this.
