Congrats! My daughter also got in with Regents/Honors today. Was definitely exciting and validating to see that $30K figure. However, UCD is probably at the bottom of her wish list. Will likely drop candidacy to open a spot.
In-state, global disease biology, 3.95/4.37/4.37

Thank you! I am sorry for your daughter. I hope everything works out for her.
Yes, she is very excited. Her number one is still UCSD. We will see.
Omg , that would be awesome!
Good luck!

Sorry Jack. Hey, my daughter lives in the Bay Area and has only gotten WLā€™d at her in-state Cal schools, which were her top choices. My advice to you: start a Go Fund Me or something to raise $500 to cover the difference if you get in off the WL at your #1, and use that as your explanation to your top WL school as to how much you want to go there and why. You got into some awesome schools, this is just a really odd year. Good luck!

I am thankful he applied to many schools and has some great options. UCD has a great engineering program. Congratulations to everyone who got in!

Totally feel your pain. Sad and confused. 4 years in high school, my child takes 11 AP + 15 honors, National Merit, took SAT in summer after Sophomore without any tutoring, got 1560, MathII 800, we applied 8 California schools. We got rejected by every single one, except waitlisted UCSC. Itā€™s eye opening. I know many here are in the same boat like us. We were sad at first when UCI result came out. But after so many rejections. We are able to make fun of it. Son was happy that at least he got his first email from UC schools notified him the result has been out. Got to find something to laugh about in tough time. Cheers everyone!

Thatā€™s the most competitive applicant Iā€™ve ever seen get rejected left and right. Hopefully they end up somewhere they love.

Thatā€™s very strange. You should have someone take a look at your application and see if there is a red flag of some sort in the application.

4.0 UW GPA
Test-optional
Around 12 APs, 15 DEs, 3 HNs
International student

Daughter got in for Bio. In state.
3.9/4.3
Waitlisted: UCSB, UCSC, SLO
Accepted: Northeastern, U of Washington, Oregon State,
So happy she got into a California school.

If you donā€™t mind me asking what is your sonā€™s gpa and major?

My daughter got in OOS.
Waitlisted at UCSB.
Still waiting to hear from a few reach schools, but she has been accepted to other schools she prefers over Davis, so thatā€™s one spot on the WL that will open.

Congrats to those who were accepted! And to those of you who werenā€™tā€¦donā€™t worry, youā€™ll find your perfect fit!

@SierraBound Sorry to hear about your sonā€™s situation. My son has similar stats and we applied to Arizona State University Computer Science. He got in with $15K/year scholarship for 4 years. That is basically making it the same cost as UCs. ASUā€™s CS program is very good, and you can also apply to their Barrett Honor College. I believe ASU has rolling admission so maybe they still take new applications. You may want to try it.

Oregon State, you should be able to pay WUE tuition.

Thanks for saying that. We actually feel quite alright now after seeing so many great candidates canā€™t find the doorway in just like us. I think itā€™s meant to be. The reason we applied almost all UC schools is because we planed to move to California after he graduates from high school. Every school has their way to build their idea community. My kid was determined not one of their choice. We canā€™t force our way in. He got many other great offers, include Wisconsin Madison, U Pitt and got top merit scholarship from Northeastern and Cass Western. All in CS. So he will be fine. We learn a lot through this experience. Thanks!

Still not too late to apply for Arizona or ASU. They give very good scholarship for high archiving students. Both are Pac 10 colleges. Check them out.

Thanks, like I mentioned in above. Itā€™s probably just because the application reviewers donā€™t think my son fit the community they want to build. I remember someone mentioned he got into UIUC CS, but got rejected by UCD, probably same situation.

Its me.

We are oos. His weighted GPA in our high school is 4.6, but I think the way UC calculate your GPA is different.

Iā€™m so sorry BaileeJA, as a mom it hurts me to hear your disappointment. I havenā€™t followed your story here so Iā€™m not familiar with your situation, but 2 years ago my nephew and his girlfriend graduated high school with C averages and no real 4-year college options (Iā€™m not suggesting youā€™re in the same situation, just pointing out what were his lack of UC options at the time). They both attended Santa Monica College (a JC) for 2 years and were then both admitted to UCLA, UCSB and Berkeley (her with scholarship $ at Berkeley). Theyā€™re both now happily thriving, heā€™s at UCSB and sheā€™s at Berkeley.

Had my son not gotten into a UC that was a good fit, we were fully prepared to go the JC route for 2 years. El Camino College has rolling admissions and an honors program that I believe is free for eligible students (and itā€™s merit-based - if you qualify for the honors program, itā€™s free).

Keep your head up and keep reminding yourself that this was an unusually odd and unpredictable year of college admissions. Youā€™re clearly invested in your future and passionate about where you want to go and what you want to do - I have no doubt youā€™ll find the right path for you.
