**uc davis class of 2025 discussion**

For those who might be interested, UC Davis housing just shared the following about Ramadan.

For students observing Ramadan, the DCs will be open after sunset every day except Saturday and meals will be available for pick-up until closing of dinner. Segundo DC will also be providing breakfast meal options in the evening upon request the evening before.
In addition, breakfast and Halal options will be available for purchase at the retail markets.

Was anyone excepted into Davis but waitlisted at UCI (as their #1 choice)? I recently committed to UC Davis but am waitlisted @ UCI which is my #1 choice. I was wondering if anyone knows what the transition is like having already committed to one UC but switching to another one late in the game. Iā€™m worried that Iā€™ll be too far into the process at UC Davis to switch to UCI if accepted off the waitlist.

Iā€™m pretty sure you can withdraw your admission to UC Davis and SIR to UC Irvine if they accept you, even if its late in the ā€œgame.ā€

You can accept UCI if admitted off the waitlist, but you will lose your enrollment deposit and due to Covid you may not have guaranteed housing so something to consider.

My daughter was accepted to the honors program at Davis and is wondering if anyone knows if there is Facebook group for honors /or anyone that wants to connect.

This is the official Davis FB group. The honors Group Me or FB group are often off shoots of students who connect on this page.

How easy it is to change majors at UCD? My son was admitted to UCD as an environmental science and business major but now thinks that pure Economics is a better path for him. Thanks for any insights! This board has been a huge help.

There is no Environmental Science and Business major at UC Davis. There is Environmental Science and Management (nothing to do with Business) or Managerial Econ (Business related).

Change of majors at UC Davis are not too difficult unless the major is impacted or selective. Managerial Economics is selective while Economics is not. Econ is in the College of L&S while Environmental Science or Managerial Econ are in the College of Agriculture.

Change of Major Accompanied by Change of College
Students planning to change to a major outside their college requires approval by an adviser of the new proposed major and requires deanā€™s approval for admission to the new college. Additional steps may be required by their advisor.

@Gumbymom Thanks so much for the quick response. I was mistaken as he was accepted into the Environmental Science and Management. Do you know how students change majors before they start their freshman year if they want to switch to Economics? Thanks again for your insights.

The two majors have very different requirements. ESM starts with a lot of year-long STEM courses - biology, chemistry, physics and math. The only overlap with Economics would be a year of math. If he starts with Econ and changes his mind back to ESM, it will likely take him longer than 4 years to graduate.

@lkg4answers & @Gumbymom Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Is he opposed to taking chem or bio? If not, he can start with MAT 17, ECN 1, CHE 2 and another course (maybe a First Year Seminar). If he falls in love with ECN then he can change majors. But if he finds that he really enjoys CHE/BIS as well then he can look at a major with a minor in economics.

Definitely not opposed to chem or bio. Has done well in HS STEM AP classes but is leaning towards interests in business over engineering. Given COVID disruption at this stage of life he doesnā€™t know what he wants to doā€¦besides race his bike in college. Considering UCD, CalPoly, CU Boulder, U of Arizona. Trying to find ways to be a supportive parent without getting in the way.

It is more difficult to change majors at SLO. I donā€™t know much about CU Boulder but they do have a good environmental engineering program and also a business school. Are you in state or OOS?

His Freshman orientation dates will be based on his admitted major and college so he will need to meet with his academic advisor and plan out his schedule to change majors. He cannot change majors as an in-coming Freshman. He will have to go through the change of major and college process I noted above with approval by the Econ Academic advisor and the Dean.

I agree with @lkg4answers that changing majors at SLO is much harder than at UCD.

Although Managerial Econ is a selective major, it is within the same College of Agriculture and Environmental Science as his current major so it might be an easier switch than between Colleges.

Managerial Econ has very good career potential in the Business world and highly sought after by employers.

Current UC Davis students looking to change their major into Managerial Economics must meet with a staff advisor to create an academic study plan and need to submit a change of major petition. Before a change of major will be approved, students must be in good academic standing and will also need to have completed the full Calculus series (MAT 16A/B/C or MAT 17A/B or MAT 21A/B), STA 013: Elementary Statistics, ECN 01A: Principles of Microeconomics, and ECN 01B: Principles of Macroeconomics. All of these courses require a C- or higher.

Congrats!!! So proud of these kids going to such a wonderful school.Go Aggies!!!

From the Chancellorā€™s Update today:

  • Fall quarter ā€” We continue to plan for our return to in-person instruction and other activities, and expect to provide more information (including vaccination guidance) next week.

The other day I went to Davis and drove through the downtown and campus area. There is a large community park in the middle of downtown where weekly farmers market is held. Many young and old people congregated with social distance and I felt enormous happy vibe. Anyone who decides to commit to UCD wonā€™t regret!
