Is University Grant counted as Cal Grant? Or are they separate? Cal Grant isn’t listed anywhere so it only makes sense.
http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/grants.html says that they’re different. If they aren’t combined, that’s a lot of aid!!
^ I’m curious as well.
This is from the UC website
“Think of gift aid as free money that you can use to cover your educational expenses. Grants and UC scholarships fall into this category and help cover your cost of attendance (which includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, health insurance, transportation, and personal expenses)”
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/paying-for-uc/how-aid-works/
It doesn’t say about the differences between University Grant and Cal Grant, but I’m pretty sure that they are different in that Cal Grant is Cal Grant and the other is a University Grant, but they are both used as just gift aid (for tuition and school expenses). That’s my interpretation of it.
I hope the cost is over estimated on the budget pages. I’m getting 26k in aid with 8k to pay left over, eligible for 3k in work-study and 5k in subsidized loans.
so much money 8-|
I reaaaally don’t want to take out that 5k subsidized loan b-(
but I will if I have to
Thanks @selimpride. I think you may be right. Also, on the UCD Financial Aid and Scholarships page it says “If you are selected for the Regents Scholarship, you will be notified at the time of admission.”
I’m also debating the SHA vs off-campus housing. My FA is based on off campus housing and they estimated 10K for room and board which is a little low since it worked out to be about $815 a month. Still, the FA is enough to cover rent and tuition which is huge for me. I can figure out the rest if need be.
I’m getting $26,653 in University and Pell grants.
- 14,046 for tuition and fees
- 1,601 for books and supplies
I’m going to be riding a bike or walking to school so I’m not calculating in their transportation fees, waiving the health insurance thing, I don’t know what the $2,328 ‘other’ thing is so i’m not going to look at that, which leaves me with $11,006. I want to live on-campus so that 11K would just go to SHA, correct? I think that gets me a single-occupant room with no meal plan (meh).
I know, dumb question. I feel like there’s some hidden loop holes with all this financial aid.
Wow @boxandwhiskers. I’m getting roughly $15,000 of aid in University and Pell Grants. May I ask how much of it is on pell grant and university grant?
@Tonsel way more University Grant than Pell Grant.
Did you guys put yourself as off campus or on campus students during your FAFSA?
I did mine as off campus and am getting roughly $19k in grants
I see I can change campus status here: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/ChangeInAid.aspx
So I’m just a bit curious.
UCD giving good financial aid.
I put on-campus. That might be affecting it.
UC Davis takes their mascot very seriously. Apparently you can bring your own horse.
Or morph into a horse.
damn uc davis gave me more money than ucsb
financial aid is sweet at Davis. They really appreciate my hard work lol…
UCSD gave me more than UCD ): Then again, maybe they didn’t add cal grant to it yet.
I just read this on the Information for entering undergrad students financial aid page, about scholarships:
April: The Undergraduate and Prestigious Scholarships office begins awarding scholarships to recipients who are not required to show financial need. Most initial scholarships to new students are announced prior to May 1. The remaining recognition awards will continue to be announced through August.
so that’s something.

dunno if you guys have looked at the SHA pricing…jesus. I think I’m going to do it without a meal plan bc the meal plan itself is like another 5k :-< I can avoid loans by just opting out the meal plan
I just found that UCD doesn’t take one of my classes, dropping my GPA from 3.8 to 3.79. I was dq from regents. Oh well I’m choosing UCLA now for sure because of that.
