UC DAVIS FALL 2019 TRANSFER THREAD

Since it’s for Southern California residents only, maybe it has more to do with location rather than distance

Like for example they gave me the option of departing from from either LAX or Ontario airport, so maybe you have to be within a distance of those two

Well I’m like 45 minutes south of Ontario and about an hour and a half south of LAX. I’m definitely a SoCal resident… very weird that I’d be excluded and only get the one day event invitation. Maybe it has to do with finaid too? Like you have to be under a certain bracket.

@tinedancer I’m also a SoCal resident (Orange County) but I got the email for the overnight transfer event last night. Not sure if I’ll opt in because I already made arrangements to attend the one day event on the 10th

@ilovemydog2019 lucky you! They only gave me the option to depart from lax but I live closer to Ontario airport ? oh well I’m still grateful for the whole trip

@tinedancer no I don’t think so… I don’t really qualify for financial aid and I received the email

@davispls you should opt in! After all what do you have to lose? Lol

I did some snooping and the event coordinator for Transfer Weekend is Nancy Alderete, and she’s also the rep for LA and Ventura county. There are other reps for other areas, such as Riverside County, etc. So maybe if you aren’t a part of LA or Ventura county, you don’t qualify for the event? https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/college-fairs/

I called admissions and they said they can’t invite everyone so they just pick and choose people from the area based on certain criteria they wouldn’t elaborate on. Very upset I didn’t get invited now /:

@africangirl97 You’re right. I’ve just signed up for it.

If there is anybody here on the waitlist, I will be declining my admission offer to UC Davis. I got into UCLA with a much better financial aid package than Davis as an out of state applicant. Hopefully this will allow somebody on the waitlist to get in who really wants to go and is better able to financially. Good luck to those of you on the waitlist still and congrats to everyone else who got in!! :slight_smile:

@DavisPls
I’m from the OC as well! What community college are you from?

@tinedancer I’m sorry to hear that they should offer everyone the opportunity so I understand why you’re upset. It seems to be really impacted since they’re placing everyone on a waitlist until they find out the room capacity.

I’m from San Diego and I received an email about the overnight stay as well as the transfer day. I’m not able to go though because my work schedule is already out for that weekend and I won’t be able to find coverage. I think it’s really cool that both UCB and UCD are offering this, and I know we just got admitted, but I do wish there would have been more time for me plan for something like this. Those schools are my top choices, and I feel like I need some time or more information about the schools to decide. I can’t make it to any of the so cal visits or transfers days either also because of work and little notice.

If anyone ends up going to any of the UCD events please update us with how it went!
