I wanted to apply as the NPB major but my GPA for my chemistry sequence wasn’t high enough. So I applied as psychology and got in. I know switching majors is possible after your first quarter and if you can fit it within a 225 unit cap. However, would I even be eligible to switch given that I couldn’t even apply in the first place? Would my chemistry GPA still be taken into account? Basically, is the criteria for changing into a specific major the same criteria for admission to that specific major? If so, would they allow me to perhaps retake a chemistry class to boost my GPA up? Sorry for so many questions, but I’ve emailed about three advisors (including major advisors and BASC advisors) and neither has given me a definite answer. They all want me to make an appointment to “review my options” but I live in LA and can’t exactly drive up to Davis on any given day. Thanks for any feedback!
Since the advisors want you to make an appointment to go over your options, just make it during your orientation since that is when you will be registering for classes anyway. Changing majors as a transfer vs a Freshman is probably different, but either way you still have to meet an advisor.
This is according to the UC Davis website:::
Change of Major Accompanied by Change of College:
Students planning to change to a major outside their college requires approval by an adviser of the new proposed major and requires dean’s approval for admission to the new college. Additional steps may be required by their advisor.
