UC Davis Transfer Fall 2018--Discussion Post

@rorschwack You can cancel your SIR at any time but you won’t get the $250 deposit back (and most schools charge up to $100 for the transfer orientation as well). It’s only worth it for me to cancel a SIR if Davis gives me decent financial aid. SJSU has given me the most surprisingly, so we shall see.

I’m almost 98% certain we’ll all get decisions on the 20th around 4pm, so that’s better than Berkeley at least

@christiicho how did you check your financial aid for SJSU?

@jscylla I got notified yesterday that it was up! Under finances in your portal

For those thinking about CP Slo: just a word of advice from a local, they’ve got major issues with housing and such. I know it’s a good school but in the past years they’ve accepted more students than they have room for, and living off campus in San Luis Obispo county is near impossible because it’s soooo expensive to live here. Just something to take into consideration.

Need help in CS TAG
The CS TAG requirement:
Complete courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.40 for
each of the two course groups.
• Mathematics 21A/B/C (when I applied last September, I satisfied this group already)
• Engineering Computer Science CS 20, 30, 50 and 60 (when I applied, I got an A in CS 20 already)

My TAG was approved in February and I was told I need:
CS 30 need a B or better
CS 50 need a B or better
CS 60 need an A or better

My question is why do I need to get an A in CS 60? Can I get a B in CS 60 and an A in the other class and still satisfy an average gpa of 3.4 in these 3 classes?

Thank you in advance for your help

@cat2018 what was your gpa when you applied for the tag? I ask because I did my tag in Computer Science & Engr and I was told I needed a 3.20 for the selective major course group. For CS 20 and CS 30 I already had an A. But for the rest, this is what I was told:

CS 40 need a B or better.
CS 50 need a C or better.
CS 60 need a B or better.

I am not sure if you can make up for a lower grade by getting a higher grade on a different course. I think a lot of it might depend on the gpa you had when you applied? They might want you to get an A so that your gpa increases? Again, I really don’t know but I thought maybe this information would be useful to you. When I did my tag I had a 3.91 so maybe thats why they gave me easier requirements. Goodluck to you! I really can’t believe they are requiring an A on CS 60 from you.

@Mitroyo Thanks for your reply. My overall GPA is 3.7. I did CS 40 last quarter and got an A. Now I’m taking CS 50 and CS 60. I feel so much pressure that I need to get a solid A on CS 60.

Are there any Psychology majors waiting to hear back? I hope we get good results! good luck everyone! (:

It’s coming soon, I just know it! Too anxious

I think it’s pretty stupid that they let high school students know before transfers. Transfers are more serious since they’ve already been in college for a number of time whereas HS students might not take it as serious.

It’s also imperative for a number of us because of housing etc. I just feel like given the fact that a lot of us are working, independent students, we should be allotted more time and given notice of our decisions earlier to sort out loose ends about relocating etc.

Anyone know if this is on a rolling basis? Or do you find out acceptance/rejection/waitlist all at once?

@plzpaymytuition I believe it’s all at once.

@plzpaymytuition like a month ago some from last year hopped on this thread to confirm it’s all at once. I don’t think this year it’s going to be different.

It’s awful. I have an apartment that I’m ready to sign the lease for, but my roommate is hesitant. We’re both tagging to Davis but we have a third buddy whose tag is rejected. My roommate is hesitant to sign the lease because of that.

Someone’s gonna snatch that apartment up if we don’t sign soon.

@elliotR I live in the next town up from davis, which is Woodland CA. Check out places in that town if you ever need to. I love it here, it’s a nice town with lots of stuff and is usually cheaper than davis. It’s only about a 15 min drive. Just something to consider if you ever need to.

@plzpaymytuition I’d believe it’s all at once; but I do know someone who got accepted already. Large possibility that he used TAG and they let those people know earlier. I have no idea but it’s so nerve wracking

Sigh. I’m sincerely freaking out because of my GPA even though my major is unimpacted!!! aaaaaaaaaaa

@ElliotR my girlfriend and I were deciding between me commuting to Davis from Berkeley or her commuting from Davis. Huge difference in price, but we had to act quickly to get a decent place and I picked to commute from Berkeley as Davis is not 100%. I just wish we could find out 2 weeks earlier my life would be much less expensive that way.

Also, woodland is great. Parts of sac are great too.
