UC Davis Transfer Fall 2018--Discussion Post

@RaymondAlvaradoH ive been accepted to ucsc and sdsu. I got denied at sjsu and cal poly because they told me that my major sociology is impacted there and they dont have enough space. Im fine with that tho . Ive applied to ucsb ucsc ucd. I wanna go far and not stay close . So far for uc’s i got accepted to ucsc.

@OhWhatsHerName thats so cool and awesome!!! And thanks for that good to know. Whats ur major?

I applied to UCD and UCSC too, along with SFSU CSUS and SJSU. I got accepted to all 3 CSUs, and Sacramento is my top choice out of those. I’m still waiting to hear from either of the UCs. I think I would choose Sac State over UCSC, but Davis is by far my top choice.

I applied as a transfer from another CSU with a 3.0 GPA.

@OhWhatsHerName @letmein123 I’m also going to UCSC if I don’t get in to davis. Campus is sooo pretty I went this past weekend and took a tour. Love love love it! Housing is guaranteed for transfers btw (on campus)

@Fmcgillivray yay another CSU transfer!!!

UCSC is also my back up. I only took 2 classes this semester, gonna get a C in both so I won’t meet the 3.0 requirement this semester. (Calc and Chem). UCSC is the only school that doesn’t require a 3.0 this semester as part of the admissions conditions unlike UCSB.

I should have planned out my classes, I got overconfident since I got an A in Chem 1A and B in Calc. But oh well, I don’t mind UCSC.

Im still hoping one of Irvine/Davis accepts me and doesn’t require a 3.0 this semester

I haven’t seen anything from UCD that says you need a 3.0. I think their required is 2.4, but they recommend 2.7 and higher to have a chance.

It’s good to know that I’m not alone! Praying for you too all too! :slight_smile:

According to their catalog, UC Davis requires a 2.8 to be “competitive” in most majors. I think engineering requires 3.1 or something since it’s impacted.

Oh gotcha. I’m applying into Art History so luckily I didn’t need to pay attention to the impacted majors. Wishing you luck!

Yea i’m pretty sure for most (but probably not all) the min GPA is only like 2.4. But due to hi competition, the people who score well above that get accepted, so to be competitive with them, you gotta get a high GPA as well

@AgainstTheOdds so does that mean anyone with a gpa higher than 2.8 has a good chance of getting in? Man Econ isnt impacted so theres that…

My TAG for Biochem was approved, but I got a C in general chemistry II which brought my gpa down to a 3.0. I thought I had until the end of Spring 2018 to bring my gpa back up to a 3.2, but I emailed the UC Davis rep and she said my TAG may become invalid.

Does being accepted into the summer session mean anything?

MFW not sure if Davis is gonna see my 2.79 at time of application as “2.7” or “2.8” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Do you guys know if winter quarter grades count at all? With winter quarter grades I at least go over Davis’ “2.8 recommendation” (I’ll have a 2.87)

I think if you have a 2.8, they will consider your app more seriously than people that apply with a lower gpa than that. Based on previous years though, they accept people with over a 2.8. Davis also considers how many major pre-reqs you completed, for example, the gpa range for Man Econ is like 3.3-3.5 for the middle 50% of people that got admitted last year. It is really competitive but with a 2.8 you have a chance. They also factor in your ECs and major pre-reqs.

@AgainstTheOdds I only have one major prereq (which I got a C in because I took in my first few quarters when I had really bad anxiety) I’m just scared they’re gonna only see 2.7 out of my 2.79 and not see how close I am )-:

If you updated the UC application with your winter quarter grades, then they will count towards the decision. If it was too late to update by the time you got your grades, then they won’t

@Fmcgillivray OTL quarter system wai

@coolskeleton95 I think you have a good chance because your major has a high acceptance rate and they factor in a combination of things. They also let you explain any circumstances in the insight essay. Do a lot of people apply for your major as a transfer?
