UC Denial Appeal

I suppose this sounds shady, but a friend of mine really wanted to get into UCSD and was denied. She is going to appeal (at my recommendation). In an effort to help her out, does anyone have any advice as to what to include in an appeal letter?

probably a waste of time

I'm in the same situation as your friend and yeah i would really like some help with the whole appeals process.

So far i found out that they will "only review an appeal" if 1. there was an administrative error, or 2. something extrordinary happened in your life/academics that wasnt properly conveyed in the original application.

if anyone has any information on how to write a letter, or just any appeals information in general, please post!

Does your friend have any life-changing experiences/difficulties not reported that can account for her lack of academic achievement?

yes i am trying to appeal to ucsd as well. i actually did really well fall semester of senior year and i kept them up through this semester too. so i am planning on giving them a copy of senior grades. you guys could try this too. i don't think its good enough though. you need some like life changing thing. but good luck

I've heard that they are actually quite forgiving when it comes to appeals. I assume the rec letters, etc. help immensely. If we can't think of anything profound that has changed her life, any other advice?

I'm appealing too... for UCSB. There was a class I didn't put on my application, so I think I'm using that as an excuse to appeal. The only other thing I could think of is to maybe do a ton of community service and join/start clubs (or whatever you were lacking earlier) and write about that.

I don't know if this applies to UCSD too, but on the UCSB appeal website, it says "High grades received in the senior year are not a basis for the reversal of a decision." So you could try it, but you might want to include something else as well.

I don't know much about appealing, especially for freshman admissions... But I do know that if it means that much to her to have a diploma from UCSD, then her best bet would be to try for Spring admissions. Not as many people apply for that and hence, it'll be easier for her to get in. Another way would be to transfer there after a year somewhere else (of course make sure to perform well academically)...my friend did that with UC Berkeley and they accepted her without hesitation.

From what I ahve heard, the appeal process is quite forgiving and they really look at all appeals. If your packet is good, you actually have a good chance is getting in.

its passed the post mark date, but worth a chance
