So I want to major in CompSci and I plan on writing at least 2 of the 4 short answers related to CompSci, but for #6 I was thinking that I could write about French? Is it bad to say that my favorite subject is something other than my intended major? So do they read the essays knowing what major you want (especially since you can apply to different majors for different UCs using the exact same essays)? I am already writing about CompSci a lot and I don’t want to come across as redundant, so perhaps my interest in a foreign language will offset that/ show my variety of interests? I was also thinking about answering a question about my environmental work which I think sounds enriching but again is unrelated to compsci.
If you truly thought your French class was your favorite class, then I don’t see why you shouldn’t write about it! Since you’ve already established an interest in computer science, they probably already know about that. It’s a positive quality to appreciate other subjects. And the schools know that classes aren’t always considered favorites because of the subject matter (teachers, projects, etc also make them interesting).
