I am a spanish major who plans on transferring to a UC or CSU in the fall of 2019. However my community college might not offer Spanish 3 in the winter which means I would have to complete Spanish 3 in the spring. Spanish 4 is also a requirement to transfer but I might not be able to complete it by spring due to Spanish 3 being a prerequisite. However if I complete Spanish 3 in spring, my school is going to Spain and Spanish 4 is being offered. Should I apply to schools as a sociology major and once I complete Spanish 4 in summer change it to Spanish since I will technically have all the prerequisites to change the major??? Or should I just apply as a winter transfer?
If a course isn’t offered the UC is fairly forgiving. However, you should check the nearby CCCs and see if 3 is offered in winter and if so, try and take it. Perhaps online? (I don’t know if language is offered online.) You can try here: http://cvc.edu
I would do my best to get it but if you simply can’t, before you change your major, email each UC to which you are applying and ask what the policy is if you can’t get Spanish 4 completed.
Since Sociology and languages are both in College of Letters and Science, and Spanish is not a selective major, you should be able to switch majors after you take 4 at the UC (or in summer, if offered).
