Hi all,
Basically, I took a summer course this summer (going into senior year) to free up space in my senior schedule and I was wondering if that would be calculated into my UC GPA. They say summer courses for failed classes after junior year matter but don’t say if it counts for senior courses. I needed a 70 to pass so I got a B and now am afraid it could hurt my application. If it did, I would consider just taking the course during the year.
If the summer course completes an a-g course requirement, it will be calculated into your UC GPA but if it is a college level course it should also get an extra honors point in the calculation if UC transferable.
One B in a college level course will not make or break your application. What course did you take?
From the UC Website:
**If a high school student takes a UC-transferable course at a college/university and lists it on their UC application, will the grade earned in the course be included in their GPA, even if it is not listed on their high school transcript?
Students must report all enrollment and academic coursework. If the course the student took is in an “a-g” subject area, the grade will be calculated in the GPA, and if the course is transferable, it will earn an extra grade point and college credit. Upon admission to UC, the student will be required to submit an official transcript from the college/university in addition to their high school transcript.**
It was called English 12 something. It’s not a college credit; it was done online through the Brandywine virtual academy and its gonna bring down my UC GPA by about .12 points.
Also thank you for the response!
Sounds like you need to include it. While most may take it as a senior, summer classes taken before senior year must be reported.
My S ended with 3 Bs end of junior year and had very successful UC admissions. He did spent a lot of time on his essays.
