@goodkidmaadcity Assist will show you which classes definitely transfer over. Direct articulation is pretty rare for CC philosophy classes, because certain UC’s (particularly Berkeley) teach specific things, and want courses that align very similarly.
Keep the syllabi for the courses, and print out your CC’s course descriptions for those courses - you’ll need them for when you want to petition for subject credit. There may be someone you can email at UCSD who can tell you definitively, but generally, you won’t know until you’re there and actually try to petition for credit.
@goldencub if I no longer have the syllabi do you think obtaining a current version of it from the professor will suffice? Or does it have to be from the semester/year that I took it?
@goldencub Thanks for the insight! For a little more background, I’m considering a minor in philosophy and I’ve literally taken every philosophy class my cc has to offer. Do you think those can transfer over for a possible philo minor @ ucsd? It would be ideal to knock out the lower divs so I could just start on the upper divs when I transfer.
No not at all. It’s a class where I submit an assignment every other Sunday, too and it’s like read an article and then submit a summary of what you read kind of thing. Not very challenging.
@boxandwhiskers An Ethics class at Foothill College (online). So I’m up to either a 3.95 or a 4.02 for CC, depending on whether or not LSAC takes an intermediate algebra class I took in high school into account.
Anyway, it was a good class. It’s probably offered during the Spring quarter, if anyone’s interested. It was pretty easy, too.
Nice. I wish I had taken Ethics/Human Values to satisfy the last Humanities requirement for IGETC instead of this Logic class. It’s not terrible, but I realized it’s pretty much the same thing as English 5 which I already took.
@boxandwhiskers The prof of that class at BCC seems pretty good. I wanted to take that class with him last Spring, but that would have put me at 17 units, which would have been excessive.
I sounded reaaally pretentious in that last comment.
lol no. You didn’t. I’m taking 17 units right now and it’s exhausting so I don’t blame you for staying clear of that.
Krupnick is supposed to be great. Doubiago is my favorite (at BCC) but I think she only does Feminist Philosophy. It’s kind of sad how little Philosophy classes BCC offers
@boxandwhiskers CCSF’s philosophy department is much more strong. It’s definitely comparable to UCB’s lower-division philosophy courses - although, naturally, as the slightly watered down community college counterparts.
I was interested in Doubiago’s class, but it never worked out with my schedule. Too bad. I’ve always wanted to take social & political phil, but that’s never worked out either.
The B in intermediate algebra probably won’t count. LSAC will probably see it as remedial.
I’m probably going to maintain my GPA this semester. I’m expecting A’s in Ancient Philosophy, Philosophy of the East, Introduction to Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, and History/Appreciation of Cinema. Unfortunately, unless I’m perfect from this point on I’ll probably get a B in symbolic logic.
I believe that results in a 3.89 semester. My current GPA is 3.90. Oh well.
