they used to have the thomas haider program where about 200 kids start out for it, and eventually only the top 24 kids make it through. the reward? guaranteed admission into UCLA medical school.

they used to have a full curriculum and stuff for it. now, its just anybody can major in whatever they want and apply for the 24 spots i believe. its not as well-run as it used to be. i think they just disconnected it like last year.

however, it does work out. my friend ended up as top 24 and got into ucla med school. do note that he was a valedictorian who passed up ivy-level schools to go to UCR's thomas haider program... but it was worth it for him.

thanks ..

no its still up, i was there last week and they talked about it

really? they told me they were phasing out the real program, as in the one where you have to take all these courses with the same people and stuff.

they still have a "thomas haider" program, as in they still guarantee the top 24 students who apply get into ucla medical school, but the program's requirements have been totally changed.

that's the impression i got when i visited last year

i dont know about the requirments, only that they bragged about the ucla tranfer program about 17 times
