UC Riverside Fall 2020 Transfers Thread

I just got accepted earlier today! I’m an intercampus major transferring from UCSC. Wishing you all luck!
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.0
Major Prep: Will finish by spring 2020
Transfer: from UCSC to UCR
EC’s/Community Service: 2 jobs, got EMT certified from UCLA over su
Personal Statements: Pretty good
Applying to: UCR, UCI, and UCLA (both reaches)

P.S. I finished all my GE’s at UCSC so I’m just getting a letter of reciprocity

Hey guys,

I got admitted as a Business Administration major. I just received my preliminary financial aid package. I wanted to find out if I was awarded a scholarship. Is it posted on the preliminary fa package? or did you guys get a separate email?

@182cookie Do you mind me asking why you are leaving UCSC as a Bio major? I’m in the Biological Sciences and got accepted to UCSC so I’d like to hear from someone who has been there.

I just got accepted today. I tagged as business administration but they said they put me in an alternate major (Business Preparation). I’m guessing that means I didn’t get in through TAG? Anyways I’m just happy I got in and I’m sure I can change later if I need to.

What is a “Business Preparation” major?

I’m not sure but this is what it says “Congratulations! You have been admitted to the major of Business Preparation in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences for Fall 2020.”

I would email either an academic counselor or Admissions… preferably an academic counselor to ask how you can go about getting into your major. Also, research job openings & employers for “Business Preparation” major.

It depends on what type of bio you’re going there for. UCSC is known for its great marine bio program and they even have a separate campus just for that. I was an MCD bio major at UCSC but I didn’t really like the campus or the city. Santa Cruz is really sketchy and as a woman, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving school alone. Also, I was far from home, about 7 hours, and I was really homesick. I also wanted to move back to save money and be nearby the grad schools I’m planning on applying to. Everyone there was really nice and I made good friends there though, It just wasn’t the place for me. If you’ve visited the campus and you felt like it was for you then you should be fine! Side note: it’s really hard to find off-campus Medical jobs in Santa Cruz and I’m an EMT and didn’t have time/car to drive all the way to San Jose for a job. I need PCH hours for PA school and the area just had NO EMT jobs or anything similar to get my hours. This was also a large part of my decision to leave.

If you already got accepted and want to take prereq classes over the summer, they do not accept that and state it in the provisions for admission section. However, if it’s the summer before you apply then yes, they do. I took a summer course last summer and it counted.

My friend got rejected by UCR with a major in psychology. We don’t know what is the main reason for the rejection considering she has a ~3.6 GPA. My guess is that she was missing two of the required lower-division courses in General Chemistry and Calculus. I helped her wrote an appeal letter after getting her prereqs cleared and registered for the class over the upcoming summer but I’m not sure if that’s going to help her win the appeal at all.

Ps the appeal letter allowed 500 characters maximum. We legit wrote like 3 sentences and attached a copy of her summer course registration …

@snorost summer usually doesn’t matter for completion of your courses prior to transfer. I highly doubt an appeal like that will go through unless she had a good reason for not taking those two classes

I just got admitted to ucr

Your stats, major/GPA/prerequisites completed/IGETC-certified, that you provided were very helpful & insightful.

“got admitted” - want to elaborate or just leave it at that?

Hello everyone,
I got admitted to UCR on March 24th as a Biology major and got invited to Honors.
I am a Cal State transfer and I have a 3.74 gpa.
I completed all the required courses except the second sequence to Physics and Organic Chemistry (I only completed the first part of each). However, my provisions requires me to finish the second sequence of Physics over summer 2020.
Hope this helps! Good luck to everyone else!

@snorost @182cookie Actually, I have been admitted as a Biology major and They are allowing me to take summer classes. But I stated I would be doing so during the Academic Update back in January. So you can do it.

But if you trying to drop a class this semester in hopes of taking it during the summer I would contact them and make sure your college is even still offering that class during the summer. I know with my CC they’re pretty much canceling most of the classes that involve a Lab. such as Physics and Chemistry courses.

Quick question. Is anybody’s CC still planning on having classes with labs during summer? I’d like to get my last organic chem done in summer but my CC is canceling most classes with labs :(.

@PursuitOfKnowledgee Check out IVC and Saddleback classes. I know we still have lab classes as of now!

@schoolgirl731 Thank you! I will definetly check those out hopefully they continue to offer those classes during summer semester.

It’s not a requirement lol
