im going to agree with DRab although I don't prefer UCR myself because of aesthetic reasons, I don't believe your undergrad defines you (outside of HYPSM & the like)...mostly grad school is a numbers game that relies mostly on GPA and MCAT/LSAT/etc scores. also if the school's a dumpster in any way, it's cuz the city of Riverside is unsightly and has a thriving homeless population...

Thriving homeless population? Compared to what?

And for clarification, you exclude academic graduate school from your "graduate school" definition, right? Plenty of academic programs are more than numbers games.

well, when i went there to visit and when one of my sisters went there for college (for a year or so before transferring)...we saw a fair amount of homeless people about but perhaps it was just that particular area of Riverside that we experienced...

and yes, academic grad schools are not included neccesarily.

Drab, have you actually VISITED UCR? The city really is "unsightly," as Arista writes. The homeless and the deadbeats frequently "hang out" at University Village. Why don't you let people state their candid opinions about UCR for a change. And no, I'm not Arista.

909

Uh, no. I've lived and worked near UCR my entire life, and there aren't that many homeless people. I go to Tropics all the time in UV, and I've never once seen a homeless person. I've been up north once (Bay Area), and that is what we call a "thriving homeless population."

I've been to UCR countless times. The city is not unsightly. UCR is not the city of Riverside, and anyway, UCR is very green and nice. They can state their opinions, and I'll ask for clarification, or to consider it in context, because often times, it needs further scrutity. What is arista?

Riverside is a desert - primarily composed of dirt and tumbleweed. The river is really a riverbed. I'm not sure where you're getting this green business from - that's absolutely laughable. The them is brown. The brown sky matches the dirt on the ground, brown from the smog...or are you going to tell us that there isn't any smog either??

909

You ever been to the campus? It's called grass. Trees. You ever seen Riverside from Mt Rubidoux? You can't help but notice the green from the trees. There's some smog. I'm not going to misrepresent things like you would, no worries. The smog gets pretty bad at times, but it's fairly uncommon.

The smog is "fairly uncommon"???? You're kidding, right?

Riverside-San Bernardino has the WORST pollution of any metropolitan area IN THE NATION. That means, it doesn't GET ANY WORSE ANYWHERE in the USA!! Any other lies you'd like to share with us, Drab?

909

You have one reference and study. What I was referring was the visibility of the smog. There is smog, although many studies do not put Riverside as having the worst air in the nation (Houstan, TX, for instance, has been placed ahead of Riverside in some studies). Soot is one important measure of air quality. But since this study supports your claims, do you care about the others? Do you know about them? I'm glad you've provided a source for us. You're moving on up the scale of respectability. You also have to put things in perspective. The Inland Empire is one of the fastest growing regions in America, and for a while during this, the air quality was improving. Perhaps the growth has caught up with the improvements. But I guess I'm just spreading more likes, right buddy? Why can't I be a spreader of truth like you are! The smog in Riverside is pretty bad. How bad it is is overblown.

Oh, really? Then let's look at some other measures of pollution:

Pollution by Short-term Particle Pollution: Riverside is #1 in nation
Pollution by Year-Round Particle Pollution: Riverside is #1 in nation
Pollution by Annual Particle Pollution: Riverside is #1 in nation
Pollution by Worst Ozone Air: Riverside is #1 in nation

Oh, and what about the study in the New England Journal of Medicine that found that the levels of pollution in Riverside, CA DAMAGED THE LUNGS OF GROWING CHILDREN.

Are you still going to insist that the pollution in Riverside isn't that bad? You can lie all you want to yourself, but I find it very irresponsible to lie to the general public, seriously.

909

You misrepresent the studies. The area usually features is LA/Long Beach/ Riverside.

Seriously? Whoa, you serious? Look at the list by county. I thought it was the worst? The study has too broad areas. But yes, smog is bad for kids growing up and old people. I can lie all I want to myself? Thank you for permission to join your club. Who's looking to me for medical advice, again?

If you find it irresponsible to lie to "the public," why did you post most of your nonsense under the last username?
