**** UC SANTA CRUZ CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD ****

He is undeclared. I suspect it is the high school he goes to. It is a magnet school and even with that GPA he is not in the top 10%. His classmates have all gotten early acceptance to Cal and the Ivies. As I understand it, they look at the applicant in the context of the school they attend. UCSC was his “safety.” Oh boy.

@ParentPrickly What Major? Depending on the Major, that SAT score may not be high enough.

@ParentPrickly
I like to use this calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

You count up all A’s, B’s, C’s etc… from the a-g courses taken from Summer after 9th grade through Summer before 12th. Input into calculator. For any AP/IB/DE or UC approved honors courses taken during this time, he gets 1 honors point for each semester of class up to 8 points (4 year long courses).

HS designated Honors courses are not all UC approved so you need to check his HS courses using this link. Just type in the name of the HS.

I think long story short, we were very cavalier in the college app process. We assumed he’d get in to a UC. He did not apply to any other schools.

@ParentPrickly, I’m surprised. My son has a WGPA of 4.05, ACT of 33 (but 35 Math & Science) + several AP exams+ corporate programming internships got accepted for the CS major.

@CSDad123 and @ParentPrickly: That is why I asked about the posted GPA. His GPA was way above the average, so just trying to find an explanation.

Thanks. I will check this out. We were too confident. He’s been such a great student, we are sort of shocked.

He has literally gotten several A+ grades in AP classes (history and spanish). However, he is not as strong (B’s) in math and science and I wonder if this has been the problem.

Where does it say what major you got accepted with? I got accepted but I can’t find with what major?

@chelcischool Click on main menu then click update major and it’ll tell you your current major

@Gumbymom Hi, S got accepted to Bioengg. at UCSC. (international student) This major was his first choice but will it be possible to change majors after accepting it? We see that CS is popular and the dept is among the best in the UC system, Would you have any info on the bioengg. dept please? Thanks!

Bumping @PinkQuetzal9 's question - does anybody know when/how information about Honors and/or Regents will be released? Nobody has mentioned receiving either, that I can see. D’s admit packet yesterday did not mention anything. Are these offered separately, or did she just not make that cut?

My D just received a regents acceptance via email. Major, neuroscience. 4.3 UC GPA. Sat 1440, act 32

My son just received Regents (per email) Computer Science. Going to be a big day if he gets into UCLA today as well.

Received Campus Merit Scholarship notification via e-mail yesterday at 7 pm. No mention about honors/scholars program or any perks (housing, priority class registration, etc). Campus Merit Scholarship is not Regents. http://financialaid.ucsc.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/

@aquapt S2 got an email last night notifying him that he got Regents.

Thanks and congrats, @BunnyBlue - I’ll have to ask D what’s been in her email, if I ever see her. Sometimes I feel like she’s already at college.

Hey all, did everyone receive this message regarding an admission reception? How do you know if you got Regents?

Congratulations again on your admission to UC Santa Cruz! To celebrate your achievement and to provide you an opportunity to learn more about UC Santa Cruz, I’d like to cordially invite you and a guest to our UCSC Admissions Reception in Long Beach. Appetizers will be served.

Date: Saturday, March 25, 2017–This is for the Long Beach reception…

Yep, just received it.

@anxious98 I just got that and RSVP’d rn as well, is it possibly for SoCal in-state students to get a “feel” for the university?

You are correct. Looks like they are doing region admission acceptances. Found it on their website so I registered!
