***UC Santa Cruz Transfer Decision Thread 2019***

@asmith20 at least you’re still in the running.

@bomnd different major, same gpa and I haven’t either.

Rejected

Major: Psychology
UC GPA: 3.28 w/ upward trend
Pre-req: All but precalc which I’m taking in the summer
IGETC: completed by spring
EC: Guitar, piano and singing, multiple performances including HS pep rally in front of 3000 students in which I composed a medley, played in multiple national baseball tournaments in high school, played on 2 mlb scout teams my jr and sr year, and for college team last two years. Also started “Guitar Club” in hs where I organized speakers, performances and “jam sessions” for 50+ students.
Accepted: UCSB
Rejected: UCB & UCSC
Pending: UCLA, UCSD, UCI & UW (might still apply to a few more)

I don’t get it. They said I “do not currently meet their selection criteria.” Is that just what they say when they reject you? Because when I read their selection criteria, besides have all the pre-reqs done (missing precalc) by spring, I have everything. Is that really a disqualifying factor that I’m taking it this summer?

I also just don’t get it, because I demonstrated in my essays how I’ve gone above and beyond in preparing myself in my major/field, how I’ve read dozens and dozens of books on psychology in the last 3-4 years, and how I’m passionately dedicated to the field and aspire to study it for a living and work in academia and not just get a bachelors in it. I have to be far more prepared and dedicated than most applicants to the major. Like I said, just don’t get it. Oh well.

@NoahPM Sorry to hear that. As far as I know, UCSC doesn’t read the personal insight questions. But at least you got into UCSB.

@NoahPM I’m basically in the same boat as you! I got rejected even though I was only missing precalc. On the bright side, UCSB is an amazing school and accepted both of us instead!

@noahpm the competitive GPA range for psych is 3.77-4.0. There’s no way it would have happened. There’s nothing you can do about that, so don’t beat yourself up. UCSB is a fabulous school.

Haven’t heard anything from UCSC yet, and probably never will since I may have just accidentally withdrawn my application lol. There is no warning whatsoever. Just one click and bam, you’ve withdrawn. I assumed the “withdraw, other reason” option would at least ask why, and give a warning but nope.

stats:
Major: EE
GPA: 3.77
AA-T/AS-T: No
Prerequisites: All done by this spring (diff eq and phys 3 left)
IGETC: NO
Status: CCC
ECs: Nothing

Rejected: UCB
Accepted: UCSB, SLO, UCI, UCD
Pending: UCSD, UCLA

Is it crazy to anyone else that schools like Berkeley, Irvine and Davis have already released but some of us haven’t heard back from Santa Cruz? It seems like there’s a huge gap and I’m getting frustrated.

@ArmadylGodSword Oh gosh that’s horrifying, I’m sorry! I saw someone accidentally SIR’d in another thread so I guess it’s just ridiculously easy to hit the wrong button and uh…change the course of your entire life? Not to be dramatic or anything.

@ucdochopeful2k19 I haven’t heard back from UCSC or UCSB yet. Last year I was accepted to both schools mid-March. ?

@cloud7 I AM SO CONFUUUUUSED!! Lol

You could say the same about UCSB and I got in there. I didn’t use a TAG either. It’s a 3.28 but with a strong upward trend after failing a few classes and medically withdrawing from 2 semesters my first two years at a cal state. Since then I’ve been solid at a community college, starting playing baseball again there and got healthy again, and I’ve retaken everything. Plus this source says UCSC’s gpa 25-75% 3.03-3.75, and it says their enroll gpa is 2.84-3.44, and this is right from the UC’s data, so it seems like I’d be right in the thick of it. I don’t know where you got your data, I think the thread here usually reflects a higher-achieving demographic of students.

I just don’t see how I got into UCSB missing more than half their pre-reqs (like chem, math, physics, and biology, granted I got admitted as a pre-psych & brain science), but not UCSC. I honestly thought I wouldn’t get into any schools and I would end up just getting into UCSC, because I didn’t apply to Riverside, Davis or Merced.

They don’t read them at all? That’s a shame. I’m almost certain my essays got me into UCSB, and hopefully they help me get into other schools I’m on the bubble for. Oh well though, I’m just glad I have a great option at UCSB. It’s time to buckle down and get some research experience and a 4.0 so I can get into top grad schools.

Admitted!

GPA: 2.94
Major: Marine Bio
IGETC: One class in progress
Prereqs: One class in progress
EC’s: A lot of extra circulars. Volunteered at an aquarium and then was hired and worked there for two years, now work for CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife as a Scientific Aid, and currently doing and independent research project on Sea Star Wasting Disease.
Essays: I would say they were pretty strong.
