I just got off the phone with UCSC Admissions, and they told me that they have an announcement on decisions. The deadline has been pushed out to May 15th. I know this is frustrating, but at least it means that no news is not necessarily bad news, right?
@LFBmom This is unbelievable, I saw some posts saying UCSC extended the deadline last year though. I’m wondering if the laid back vibe also exists in their admission office.
If I called admissions would they speak to me about my personal application? Or do they only answer generic questions?
@asmith20 if you have heard back they will usually speak to you about your personal application and share notes on it. However if you have not heard a decision they don’t want to talk to you and they have no information for you. This is what I personally have found.
@LFBmom Thats outrageous. For a UC that has been sending out decisions since the middle of march I find this completely frustrating. I am online every single day checking my portal 10 times a day and finally found relief in knowing tonight would be the end of this torture.
My latest message in the portal is from December last year. If they decide to extend the deadline they should at least inform me. I’m really disappointed.
IIRC, last year someone called them on May 1 and they said they would be putting up a message about extending the deadline to May 15 and then they did it that day. I agree, this is really not a good way to treat the transfer applicants.
Correction to the above: LAST YEAR, on 4/30 someone posted that they called admissions and were told “there was a problem with their system and none of the decisions they made this weekend were uploaded today and said to just keep checking but she wasn’t sure when exactly it would be fixed. She also said that they haven’t even finished evaluating all the transfer apps and the deadline was extended until the 15th.”
On May 1 someone posted that their portal was now showing “With our increase in transfer applications, UC Santa Cruz is still reviewing applicants for fall 2018. Our evaluation of your application will conclude no later than May 15” And then people were still posting acceptances through May 15.
So if they follow the same pattern, presumably they will put up a notice tomorrow about extending their deadline to notify.
Thank you for this information. I have been trying to figure out how to contact them about all of this as I have also have not been notified of my application status. This is incredibly frustrating.
I checked today and haven’t received anything, I think I’m going to withdraw my application because there are other schools I’m considering more seriously. I just think this is pretty funny because I originally thought I would hear from Santa Cruz first.
Thank you sugarcane1. She will choose one of the other great schools and accept the waitlist for UCLA. I just feel bad for those still waiting and anyone who didn’t get in elsewhere and should have gotten SC. They messaged her a while back and asked if she would take Trig. She said sure. I look over the prereqs and it’s not even a requirement. I’ve read others saying that their tag was rejected at another school bc their college changed the course number for their Calc class. I wonder is it always this chaotic or is something up this year? My D did go to 3 cc and UCLA Ext bc she was dually enrolled in HS and always had last pick at courses. Maybe there was difficulty reviewing her transcripts accurately. At any rate I wish all of you still waiting lots of luck. SC is beautiful. We really fell in love with the area.
I called earlier today and was told they were trying to finish decisions by today and if not today, by the end of this week.
Accepted this afternoon, CS Major! (checked portal, have not received an email yet)
GPA: 3.36
Major GPA: 3.8
Major Pre-req: Discrete Math & Calc will be done by this spring
EC: None
Good luck everyone!!
Idk if this will help anyone but I spoke to the regional rep today and she told us that their main priority is reviewing applications and they wanted to have all of them done by today. But, if it’s going to take later than that you will get emailed about it.
It’s ridiculous how UCSC didn’t email those of us still waiting to hear back that they will be needing additional time to review applications. It’s unfair, especially to those whom were taking into consideration CSUs. Do they not realize that not everyone can sacrifice hundreds of dollars (if not over a thousand) just to SIR and pay the housing fees at a CSU? I will be withdrawing my application since I’ve already chosen to go to UCSD and hope many others who’ve received offers elsewhere (and aren’t taking UCSC into consideration) do the same. Give those who are depending on UCSC a chance.
Finally got my acceptance! I am from the Santa Cruz area, and a psych major. So happy, good luck to everyone
@asmith20 what time did you receive your acceptance? Wondering if they stop at a certain time so I can stop frequently checking lol
Never mind! literally just checked right now and I got my acceptance email. Finally the torture of waiting so long is over! Good luck to everyone!
Just got in as “Proposed Psychology”!
GPA: 3.3
IGETC: completed
UC Santa Cruz is still reviewing applicants for fall 2019. Our evaluation of your application will conclude no later than May 10. In the meantime, please check your email and spam folder as we may be reaching out to you for more information. Thank you for your patience.
