Yep, and I think it’s pretty tone deaf considering our kids are WL. They’re not really potential banana slugs until they’re accepted.

Yes we got it (me, my wife and S21). I agree tone deaf. We all commented after the fact that it briefly looked like something important 
So was the notice a nothing burger? (My GD lives in another city so I don’t hear updates often.)
Yes, just letting everyone know they would be open to primarily in-person classes in fall.
My D21 is WL’d, and frankly, we were thrilled that we are still hearing from UCSC. We are staying hopeful! Also, we are hoping that anyone on the WL (or with an offer) that they intend to decline does so sooner rather than later so that other kids still have a shot at their dream school. Thanks! That is good information to know. It might be important as those admitted are in decision making mode and for WL students to consider as things roll out.
Thanks this was helpful. I think the mystery this year in particular is based on a few things. We can look at waitlist statistics pre-pandemic and see what averages may have been over the past few years. In many cases we can look at last year. Last year was obviously an outlier but the percentage of acceptances from the waitlist was substantially higher at most schools.
The question is will this year look more like pre pandemic or will it look more like last year given yield uncertainty etc. A less optimistic possibility is that schools will in fact put more kids on waitlists and therefore percentage accepted from the waitlists will decrease.
In either event, my S21 is looking at the schools that have offered him admission and assuming that is where he will attend…but I know in the back of his head he is still hopeful that UCSC or Cal Poly will offer him a spot.

Is there even a point of appealing a waitlist? my family is encouraging me to, but idk if they even let you appeal the waitlist. let alone how many people get admitted from the waitlist. it’s due pretty soon so i’m just trying to decide if it’s worth it.
Yes, you can appeal while on the waitlist but you cannot appeal to be put on the waitlist. Appeals are rarely approved unless you have some new and compelling information not presented on your original application.

My daughter got waitlisted and decided to appeal, purely because it can’t hurt. We’ll see! 
may I ask what y’all wrote about in your appeal? IDK whether to talk about my senior year grades, the programs I am really interested in participating in, or what!
The basis for any good appeal is that you need to show admissions that you are a stronger student academically than what is presented on your UC application. How you go about it is up to you but you also need to show UCSC why you are a good fit.

Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 12,859
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 7,576
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 4,676
For the 2018-2019 academic year, UCSC was overenrolled so for 2019-2020, they waitlisted heavily to avoid this problem again. Then they were under enrolled and pulled from their waitlist. Is this is what you are asking?
Does anyone know when was it last year that waitlisted were starting to hear back? Was it all mainly in July/August or earlier?
I believe they starting admitting off the waitlist in Mid-May.

@Gumbymom is correct - if you have evidence that your grades are now stronger then what was presented in the initial application (my daughter’s are), and also why you think you’d add value to the college, etc. Again, doubtful it’ll work, however it can’t hurt.

Just to clarify that is the number that were “offered” admittance rather than the number who enrolled…correct?
Yes, that is the # of admitted waitlisted students. The # of enrolled is not listed.
