UC Schools, NYU

Hi,
I’m an OOS applicant who really wants to attend a UC School or a competitive school in the east coast. My unweighted GPA is a 3.558 and my weighted GPA is a 4.358. My SAT score is a 1250 (570 EBRW, 680 M). I’m heavily involved in extracurricular activities as well as volunteering and community service. Do i have a chance at any UC school and any competitive schools in the east coast such as NYU

  1. Can you afford the UC's with little to no financial aid? Expect to pay $55K/year to attend as an OOS student.
  2. You need to calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

As an OOS applicant, you need to meet the a-g course requirements. You also only get the extra Honors points for AP/IB and DE courses. UC’s have their own weighting system.

For perspective, 6 of 9 UC campuses have average UC GPA’s of 4.0+ with their weighting system.

  1. What is your intended major?

Could I attach my transcript here? @Gumbymom

Yes you can or you can PM me…

And which schools do you think are reaches and matches for me

Need your UC GPA and your intended major since these will also determine what your are Reaches and Matches.

I’m undeclared- Life Sciences as my Major.

Still need your grades from 10-11th along with what courses you have taken: AP/IB or DE. Also have you taken any visual or performing art courses since 1 year is required for the UC’s.

UC GPA capped weighted is 3.84 and Fully weighted is 3.92.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

UCM/UCR: Low Match (since you are OOS and financially not a safety)
UCSC: Match
UCI/UCD/UCSB: High Match
UCSD: Low Reach
UCLA/UCB: Reach

You are competitive for NYU.

@Sterny16 How do you know??

The UC’s will be extremely expensive for you.
I don’t think your chances for most of the UC’s are good.
If you were to get into any UC, it would be Merced and Riverside.
PS Most of California does not look like beaches and sun.

what state are you from? for NYU, your GPA is great, your SAT is on the low side

I’m from Nevada

How high do I need my SAT score to be? I know that Common App superscores, so if I score really high on the EBRW section in Dec. I’ll have a new score.
