UC TAG Defer Admission

Hello. I am currently attending a California Community College and plan to transfer in the fall of 2020 using the TAG program. Is it possible to defer admission for a year after being accepted through TAG? Where can I find more information about doing so?

The UC’s normally do not defer enrollment unless there are extenuating circumstances for example military service. Once you are accepted, you would need to contact each UC to find out if it is possible. They will evaluate on a case by case basis.

The UCs do not defer transfers. You must attend at least one semester to defer or you must reapply.

It’s a different story with freshmen. I know this first-hand.

Ok, thanks for the responses. If I can’t defer enrollment, would I be able to just finish my CC coursework but wait for a year to apply for the TAG? Or would that invalidate my TAG?

You can do that. Just don’t go to anyplace beside a CCC in the interim. If you’re planning to TAG Davis, that’s the only place that could be an issue.

Ok, what would make Davis an issue?

Davis has rules about full-time student status this spring, next fall and spring unless you’re working. But it’s not especially clear-cut. Not going st all next year could be an issue.

If you are going to take an entire year off then I suggest clearing it in advance (and in an email or by letter, not over the phone) with admissions at the UC you plan to TAG

I agree with @mikemac that you should contact school admissions directly and not rely on CC posters to confirm or deny the possibility of a deferment.
