GPA of above 3.7 practically gives you 98% chance of getting to UCLA and all other UC's. I;ve been told that if you have above 3.7 they do not even read your personal statement

um does this also include UC to UC folks?

haybaxt,

what kind of sources gave you that info? I'd take that with a pinch of salt...

A source is CCC transfer counselor

To clarify what has just been discussed: Winter grades don't count with your application. Transfer counselors have confirmed this.

And the idea that they don't read your personal statement is wrong. Their system is set up to read them all--some personal statements get picked out for scholarships.

if your gpa isn't competitive, your essay will make a HUGE impact.

The point of my message was that if you have a GPA of above 3.7. Of course if you have somewhere 3.4 or less the personal statement might help.

And your message is wrong. They consider all aspects of the application whether you have a 3.7, 4.0 or 3.14. We should stop speculating that they deviate from the official process without having any actual evidence to support our arguments. That would really clean this board up.

Agreed,

A good GPA will help your application but won't lessen the value of the personal statement.

I agree with gabew42. I believe this is how they diversify the campus that you choose.

GPA: 4.0

Units Including Fall 05: 45

Applying for Economics to UCB, UCD, maybe UCLA

Only 45 units?

Ooops I mean 45 units with Fall 05. 62 by spring

hey guys, do you think i've got any chance of transferring to UCSD or UCSB in Computer engineering?
my current gpa is 3.11
and i will complete 61 units by the end of spring 2006.
transferring from American University in DUBAI....!!!

by the way i'm not an international student.

Top Choices: UCLA, Cal
Major: English
Gpa: 3.75+
Not sure for amount of units but will have IGETC and all pre-major reqs done prior to transfer.

Also have 37+ honors units.

keep posting your posts guys.

applying to UCLA, USC, UCI, UCSD - in order of decreasing preference [yeah I'd go choose UCI over UCSD; I honestly don't think I'd go to any other school other than UCLA at this point]. Major is general biology with a 3.45+ GPA, 73 completed UC units, w/ TAP and IGETC certification by the end of spring, with volunteer work at a pharmacy combined with a 20hour/week job and a few months of research. I am a General member of Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society and Phi Theta Kappa honor society - hoping to be a board member of PTK, and Christian Club. Awards include dean's honor roll and california state scholar.

I really just want to go to UCLA for my undergrad. I dont know why I'm applying to other schools. Well, better get started on those essays. Applications are so depressing. Would anyone like to evaluate my chances on UCLA? Im confident that UCSD is a match and UCI is a safety. And I don't care for USC right now.

yeah USC sucks. Hey where would you put Deans list. in the awards section

Isn't listing dean's list kind of awards a bit superfluous? They will see your academic record--if the award is simply based on your GPA, and/or completed credits, then they would be receiving no new information.
