UC transfer from an out-of-state university?

I just recently finished my first year at an out-of-state university (University of Arizona) and I will be attending there for another year but after that, I hope to transfer to a UC campus (very hopefully Berkeley, LA or SD). I tried searching on the UC website how the process for transferring works but it seems to cater only to California CC students. So I was wondering how the process works for a transfer applicant from an out-of-state four-year university. I also wanted to know what GPA I should be around for the UC’s I’m interested in (alongside the above three, I’ll be satisfied with Davis, Irvine and SB). Do my high school test scores (like SAT, ACT and AP) still matter for a transfer applicant? Or for a transfer applicant about to be a junior, is it all college activities that katter?

UC’s only accept Junior level transfers with 60 semester or 90 quarter units. OOS university transfers have the lowest priority in transferring since preference is given to in-state CCC’s, UC-UC transfers, CSU-UC transfers and probably in-state 4 university transfers. HS GPA/Test scores are not considered. For the UC’s, you want to have around a 3.8-4.0 transfer GPA depending upon major and schoold. You need check with a transfer advisor at UofA for help along with assist.org to see which classes would be UC transferable.

It is much, MUCH harder to transfer from an OOS university. How many upper division courses have you taken? You might need to watch the unit cap.

That being said, use assist.org to find the pre reqs you’ll need to complete. Since UCs don’t make assist pages for 4-year universities, you’ll need to guess.

That depends on your major, but for UCLA/UCB/UCSD OOS I’d say 3.7+, UCD/UCI/UCSB about 3.5+.

You can list AP scores, but they do not count for much in admissions. They don’t even ask for SAT/ACT scores.

For UCLA/UCB ECs are VERY important. You need to show an interest in your intended major, and some community service never hurt anybody.

Can you afford OOS tuition at the UCs?

The admit rate for OOS is about 10% at UCLA, so calculate that more or less across the board. People do it, but it’s definitely harder.

I applied as an OOS transfer, and I am planned to attend as a transfer for fall 2015. The thing you have to watch out for is the transfer of credits AND the ARTICULATION of the courses you took at your OOS University. The problem is that you won’t know if courses transfer or articulate until you get accepted, so there is no guarantee. You can try calling the UC admissions officers, but they would probably be unable to help you until you get accepted. If you really want to attend a UC campus, there is no better choice than a CCC. I think I was able to get in was because I took my major prereq courses at a CCC during the summer, so those courses were guarantee to articulate.

PS. If you are planning to transfer to Berkeley, they have a strict requirement of what english course you took to meet their admission requirement, and if your english course you took at Arizona does not articulate, that is an automatic rejection, so again I recommend CCC if you are really motivated to attend a UC.

Hi guys,
I just started my UC application and I’ll be applying as a transfer for Fall 2016. Do you need to report your AP and TOEFL test scores even as a transfer??? Thanks in advance.

@Xaeyvr : Congrats!! Which oos college did you transfer from and which UC will you be attending this fall? Also, would you mind telling me your average GPA? your sophomore grades matter too, right? Thank you.

@calilove77 you report AP, but you should be taking the two english courses at the CCC, which will prove english proficiency. The only way you might need to send TOEFL is if you don’t get a B in both courses (which is a requirement at three or four UCs). So it’s good you have the backup, just in case.

Thank you @lindyk8
