UC transfer major class not done by spring

I am in the process of beginning transfer applications for fall 2017 and I’m super worried about the fact that I will have one IGETC class (physical science) and one of my major classes left (will not be finished before spring). I am a sociology major and I need stats to complete my major requirements and wasn’t able to fit it in my schedule in time to meet the spring completion deadline and have looked everywhere for half semester classes to take but none are available. Currently I have a 3.9 GPA coming from a CA CC, which should end at being around a 3.95 by the end of fall semester, a ton of extra curriculars and a very personal and well thought out personal statement in the works. I’m just nervous that the absence of these classes (although planned) will jeapordize my chances of admission. I will be applying to UCB, UCD, UCLA, UCSB and UCSD, can anyone give me any info or ease my fears? Thanks!

Math, along with English, are the most important classes to have completed to transfer and the more classes completed, the better your chances… especially for impacted majors. As long as you have the minimum of 60 units complete that fulfill UC’s minimum requirements including at least 1 transferable math, you can apply and are eligible for transfer. However, if you can’t complete Stats by Spring 2018, your chances may not be so good. Remember, you’re probably competing against applicants who have completed their IGETC as well as all their major prep. If you’re confident your app is strong enough with your ECs and GPA, go for it. I would recommend applying for a waiver to take an excess of units at your CC if it’s a matter of being over your unit limit and register for Stats in spring. If you can’t take Stats bc it’s not offered at your CC during spring semester, check another local CC and take it there. It’s a little extra work, but it’ll greatly increase your chances of acceptance.

You can check the website to make sure you meet the minimum requirements. Good luck!
