UC Waitlist Confusion

So I was waitlisted to UCLA and intend to do my SIR with UCSB and I’m confused about housing… The housing app is due May 15 for all UCs so do I submit my housing to UCSB? What’s the amount of money that you need to put down for housing that I could potentially loose?

Treat the waitlist as a rejection and sign up for housing at UCSB. The housing website states no deposit is required for the housing contract but if you cancel, then you will be charged $250. Unfortunately, this is the chance you take if you want to remain on UCLA’s waitlist.

I wouldn’t say to take the waitlist as a rejection. However, I wouldn’t submit a deposit for housing without any guarantee yet of admission. I got in to a UC about a week after being waitlisted, then submitted my housing application without any trouble.
The deposit is usually around $250-300. I would call the admissions and/or the housing office and just ask to be sure what their policy is for waitlisted students.
