I am curious about all of you Berkeley applicants. Every year during admissions decisions, they accept a few of the students for the Spring semester instead of the Fall. Its unusual and I don't know why they bump people to the Spring, but I've seen then do it every year.

My question to you all is, if you got accepted for the Spring instead of the fall, would you still sign your SIR with Cal even though you have to wait another 5 months or so, or would you go to one of the other UC's you were accpted to for the fall?

yes, Id just get a job and wait it out, it would probably work out better for me as I got no financial aid at any other UC ive been accepted too, so i dont think UCB will be any different, if I start in spring it will give me time to save up for it...

Assuming I don't get in UCLA but get admitted to Berkeley for Spring, I would either work that semester (or internship), or see what the deal is with the Berkeley extension program so I can take classes at Berk even during the fall

Yea I wish they'd actually admit me in the spring if that meant a semester off. I could definitely use the extra money from a semester working somewhere.

Under what conditions would UC Berkeley admit only for spring semester? Boarderline candidates or for majors that have a high transfer attrition rate?

I want them to admit me in the spring sememster (more than fall)! then I can finish up other pre-req class.... I have two more physics to go....

ccstudent88, sometimes people petition a rejection letter and get accepted for the Spring, I know of someone who got accepted for the fall, then did not keep their grade at a B average for the semester before transfer and was in risk of being rescinded, so it was worked out that they would enter in the Spring.

Those types of situations I understand, but I have seen a few people (transfers) get bumped to the Spring for no apparent reason and I have no idea why, especially since Spring admittance is usually only for freshmen. My guess would be similar to yours, that its a boarder line applicant or more than one applicant that they like for a spot in the college they applied for.

yeah I think it's rare but it happens, I met a guy at Modesto Junior college that got in as a spring transfer to UCB.

I was rather confused when he told me and thought he was full of **** because I knew that Cal didnt have an spring semester application period, but then my friend told me it was true, and I still didnt really believe it, but last I heard he really is at Cal now... but yeah Idk how it happens but I guess it does happen

No, I would not attend in the spring, I would go to one of the other schools I've been admitted to for these reasons:
-I'm anxious to finish my BA and move on with my life.
-If I work for the rest of the year, I make more money, and therefore will have less of a chance for FA next year.
-I am really looking forward to quitting my job in August.

But, if I somehow win the lottery (ha! I don't even play) and am admitted to Cal for spring, then heck yeah, I would do it. Then I could spend all of fall semester in Europe or South America or both...

Yup I'd would love to attend in the Spring. It'll give me time to finish the remaining chem + physics classes I need to take for premed, and work full-time!

i'll go... if i got accepted in the fall the summer school is manditory... =.= not cool
so i won't fuss about getting in for spring
=D atleast i get a break
