Did any of you get this email? I know it says that it was sent to a small number of applicants.. but it just doesn't make sense why they would send it to people they would possibly reject...

BTW, this is the full email

"YOU’RE INVITED!

[Cal Day April 18, 2009!](http://nature.berkeley.edu/blogs/newsline/2009/02/cal_day_2009.php)

For all Cal Day Programs go to
[Cal Day 2009, UC Berkeley](http://calday.berkeley.edu/)

We only released this invite to a small portion of applicants because of space in our Resource Center. If you have friends or other people interested in CNR please feel free to have them join us.

As you know admissions decisions will be released May 1 so applications are still in the review process."

No, but the releasing it to a small number of students is pretty odd. How do they choose who gets the invite?

let’s hope it’s good news. =D
and after all, this is specifically for the college of natural resources.
and i’m assuming most people applied to letters & science.

Oh, the message just said it was at the college of natural resources, I didn’t read thoroughly enough to see it also said CNR transfer students. Well, now I don’t care about not being invited.

^
LOL.

Congrats waiting! That must be exciting! I wish L&S would do something similar…grr. Hahaha.

I also received one from NR! soooo what does that meannnn?

It means you’re in!!!

where are you from? i wanna go :p

if any of you decide to go to Cal Day…stop by the fountain in upper sproul plaza at 12 noon, a few hundred students have arranged a flash mob where everyone is going to freeze for 5 min…i really want to do it but i will be at UCD picnic day and i want to know how it turned out…

I got this email as well!!! I am sooo glad I found this post. I think it mayyyybe it means that we’re AT LEAST past the first step of admission, but definitely no guarantees :/

But who knows?? I think that a lot of CNR majors might be receiving their decisions soon because if you read the daily activities for Cal Day, one section says:

“Reception for New CNR Students
3 to 4 p.m., Morgan Hall Patio
All newly admitted College of Natural Resources (CNR) students and their families are invited to attend a special Cal Day reception at the CNR Student Resource Center to meet and socialize with other admitted students, current students, faculty, and staff.”

But I was thinking, this may be applicable to all of the freshman admits…soooo who knows when we will be hearing. Until then, we will just have to “wait in agony” haha

Is anyone attending the event?? I really want to go, but not sure if I can because of the 7 hour drive, and the fact that I will be working on a research project for my Biology class :/

woh… I wanna go!
waitinginagony, if you don’t mind, what is your stat? major?

Do they do this for international students?

but yeah, it just doesn’t make sense why they would invite us to reject us, you know?

to 4759693:

Transferring from UCSD
3.76, Microbial Biology @ CNR

I think it’s a very good sign. Hahaha. Yeah, why would they invite only these select few to reject them? You should consider yourself very lucky!!! [:

wow that’s cool i didnt get an email like that

I’m a mentor at Berkeley and received a similar email with directions to send it to all of my mentees.

Not sure the invitation actually means a whole lot for you guys, but hopefully it at least helps in the long wait. Good luck!

Thanks Edward,

It definitely helps during the wait because it may be a flicker of hope for us who received it. I really wish I could attend the event, but my biology research project must come first! :)

I think attending the event might make me ultimately depressed if I end up with a rejection letter anyway. That would be suuuuch a big blow…I already know how perfect CNR is for me, so I will just have to wait this one out…

waitinginagony, since you are in Biology major… why you want to transfer to UCB? Is UCSD stronger at biology than UCB?

we are out of the states… do you think the chance to get in is very low??
