***UCB Class of 2023 Freshman Waitlist Discussion/Stats***

As an international student interested in tech startups, I was really hoping to be in the Bay Area at either Stanford or Berkeley. But that seems highly unlikely now ?. But oh well, I have committed to Columbia University, so do you guys know how New York’s startup scene compares to Silicon Valley? Would Columbia be too well street oriented or does it encourage student startups as well? Thanks a lot for the help!

Yes, we can appeal. I plan on doing that.

@StandfordOrBust19 Barnard (the all-girls college connected to Columbia) and Berkeley were my top choices! Have fun in the big city!

Columbia is an outstanding school, harder to get into than Berkeley in most fields, and NYC is #2 in venture capital investment after the Bay Area. In 2018 NYC got $16B in VC investments00nearly as much as Europe as a whole.

Has anyone’s portal started to change?

Just making sure there’s not another mini wave today.

I’m guessing OOS CS hasn’t come out yet?

It looks like the second wave is not today

@MSY333 I think the second wave was yesterday… I just think that we didn’t make it.

@TechPlus I totally missed it! Is there a potential third wave?

Yeah, will there be a third wave? If so, how big willit be?

No idea, but based on previous years, very few people will get in I think.

Yeah there is a third wave but it’s tiny

Do I have to commit to Berkeley or will my spot be held if I just save my information on the form where I select FPF? I’m confused bc I saved my info and now it won’t tell me how many spots are left. Lol I feel like they ran out. Any insight would be super helpful

There was still around 30 spots like two hours ago, so I think you’re good

Do you guys know how many people have committed/ any numerical info on this year’s waitlist?

No official statistical information on anything admissions related for 2019 would be available until late in the calendar year or early next year. Some tidbits here and there might be available at the end of the summer.

@ProfessorPlum168 At this point, is there any hope?

Personally I wouldn’t hold my breath on another waitlist wave. There’s also transfers who are still waitlisted as well. My personal advice is to be prepared for anything unexpected such as an offer, but focus on the school that you SIRed to.

Is it still possible for there to be a small wave next week?
