***UCB Class of 2023 Freshman Waitlist Discussion/Stats***

Monday received a response yesterday

I guess we shouldnā€™t expect anything this week

No but Iā€™m guessing that it would come out on Monday/Tuesday based on last year

Who thinks that the first wave will be OOS? UCLA has only been doing OOS up to this point so it seems like there is a shortage of OOS enrolees system-wide for UCs.

Do they have somewhat of a quota for OOS?

@kahuna77 Yeah they do, and they want to maximize it so they can get that thicccccc OOS tuition, as best they can. In all seriousness, they would probably admit to the fullest extent of OOS students, but most likely picking the students from states that are not as well-represented in their class. I would think that a state like NY or MA would be well-represented, whereas Montana wouldnā€™t. Also if this is the case, the OOS waitlist admit rate might be higher than the published percentage in the CDS whereas the instate admit rate might be lower. I have no idea on what the stats are this year so I could very well be wrong.

Is it definitely true that OOS is easier than instate, even for competitive majors like EECS? I keep on hearing conflicting information so Iā€™m not sure what to believe lol

@pythonc Itā€™s harder to say for Engineering majors because I believe their yields are higher, but thereā€™s really no way to say anything concrete right now. UCB experienced a 2.5% drop in applicants this year (first decrease in like a decade I think), there are rumors about them waitlisted a lot fewer people, and people disliking the school for grade deflation and other negative aspects taken to an extreme. It really is hard to say, but my gut tells me that this year will be better than last yearā€™s 37.8% waitlist acceptance rate. It would increase this year IF they actually reduced the size of the waitlist pool AND they had a really low yield compared to previous years.

I have a friend who got in off of the waitlist on May 2 last year, and he was in-state (like 30 minutes from campus). I donā€™t know why everybodyā€™s talking about decisions coming out later ā€œfor sureā€ because I feel it could very well be tomorrow for some people!! We just canā€™t know :frowning:

@sasegal949 I thought last year the 1st wave came out May 7th. Anyways we really canā€™t be sure, it could very well come out tomorrow.

omg yā€™all just chill out lmao and let everything take its course. Either you get in or you donā€™t.

Iā€™m not sure about the whole update thing, but I updated my waitlist essay and wanted to reconfirm to them that it was updated. But when I emailed them, they just said that what you submit is what they get and there is no update that can be done after you submitā€¦ Iā€™m still confused about their email though

@CrayonShinChan I noticed that tooā€“isnt there an ā€œupdateā€ button on the waitlist form? I suppose it could be just be shown to you while Berkeley AOs only see your first submission.

@pythonc but why would they put the update button on there?

crayon, Is UCB get the first submission information only? Even though the update button is active they will not get the new information. Is it right?

@crayonshimchan you are def overthinking that. Itā€™s a broken feature. Itā€™s not supposed to be used for the waitlist but maybe forms in general. Donā€™t pay attention to it

The 4 addresses glitch should start happening tomorrow

Can you explain the glitch? Are only people accepted getting it?

@SeniorSzn @seniorturtle god damn it, I am not ready for this.

I heard that someone got off the waitlist yesterday by phone call. Has anyone else gotten off the waitlist?
