ok. misread my parents. its 115 k. Since they are foreign, their speech can slur a bit. But still, this is a lot of money no? And I checked my EFC, and I don't know if my parents messed it up, but it says 0000.

Yes, 0 is very, very wrong. It sounds like your entire FAFSA is messed up. Once your family has over 80k you pretty much get no aid. Your EFC should be over 25,000, not zero.

Either your family income is entered incorrectly or you are still being considered an independent student. Are you 24?

Nah. i'm not being considered an independent. They were before, but I called and told them I wasn't. They then offered me a new awards summary.

I knew I should have been more cautious. My parents told me they would "take care of it" when it came time to apply, as if they couldn't trust me. Last time I listen to them...ever.

You can't just call to change your status. You have to go to your SAR and make changes (through FAFSA's website).

As my status as an Independent? I did that about a week and a half ago. I called a bunch of people from the financial aid officers and they rerouted me god knows how many times. My status as an independent is no longer on my "missing documents" section.

I also went back to my fafsa and changed the fact that I was married (whcih I am not), and my parents probably thought it asked them if THEY were married. I'm kicking myself in the ass right now by the way.

So my Calbears is $11,967 and my total offered amount is $21,048. They offered loans to make up the rest (plus 400 in pell grants). My status is off-campus (though I filed for on-campus)... shouldn't I get more aid for on-campus housing?

Yes, you will get more aid for on-campus.

I chose that on my FAFSA but am actually planning on off-campus so I'm fine with them setting it that way. Cal is fulfilling more of my aid than any other UC.

Do you have any idea as to why "off-campus" appears on my print-out? Also, would it be possible to change it to on-campus and receive a greater amount?

I thought I already answered that. I don't know why it happened, but I know you can call the office and have it worked out. And yes, you will receive a greater amount.

hey guys, please help me out.
I just got my mail package from UCB financial aid office. What I don't understand is, they don't give me any aid at all. I checked the financial aid page through the Bear Facts. And the award summay page shows that I am supposed to receive aid, but somehow the amount sent to CARS is all zero. That really freaks me out. What should I do? I also check the missing documents/information page, and there is nothing there. then, I check the status page, it shows that my status is complete, and I'm not allowed to borrow any loan.

geez, i'm freaking out here. How am I going to pay for that 20K?
I really need your advice, anyone please, what should I do? is there something wrong with their system? cuz I got aids for UCB and also UCLA. So now, I really don't know why they don't give me any aid AT ALL. And just for the reference, mine is alos live "off-campus."

any suggestions will be appreciated!!
thanks

oops, I made a mistake in my last post. I said, cuz I got aids from UCB and UCLA, which is badly wrong. what I wanted to say is I got aid from UCSD and UCLA.
okay, now is corret, any advice?!

Contact the fin aid office on Monday.

wow. my parent make about 80k, and i didnt get any financial aid...
it's likely a mistake.. but at least you are making an effort to try to correct it..

I have friends whose parents make 150K+, and lots $$ in the bank accounts and still get lots financial aid..cuz their parents work oversea and don't report their income and they hide their money oversea as well. and the worst thing is they brag about it..grr

um fanter, my parents don't make that much money actually, and they already told me that they can't support me. Thx g1a2b3e, I will definately contact the fanancial aid office. Basically now, i'm just going to use the amount of aid I would receive from the school to determine which school I'm going to. money is just everything. I also going to get a part-time job and get as much loan as possible.
anyone else has the situation as mine?! any suggestion?!
