UCB or Cal Poly?

for Architecture? I never thought I'd get into UCB and face this dilemma.. :/

i once saw someone post on another thread just like this one: "imagine you're at an interview in new york for some great job, only your resume says cal poly while the other candidate's says uc berkeley. is there even a question about whom the employer will pick?" assuming, of course, that you have comparable achievements in college.

UC Berkeley, no question. It has a great architecture program.

if you're %100 sure you want to be an architect then head to Cal Poly because its a 5-year Barch program. Otherwise berkeley's a good choice.

Cal Poly has a 5-year program. Berkeley has a 4+2 program, and the pay is very good after that. Or you could just go for the 4-year program, which has about the same starting salary as Cal Poly's 5-year program.

Personally, I'd go for Berkeley's 4+2.

http://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Arch.stm

http://www.careerservices.calpoly.edu/gsr/03-04/gsr_past.htm

If salary is important to you then Poly's median salary is actually higher. Both are solid programs though. They are VERY different schools so visit each and see where you fit in better.

thanks guys, I've decided to go to Berkeley. After reviewing my financial awards, it turned out that Berkeley's was better than SLO's. Since my motive for taking architecture was exploring my options in the design field, I think I'd rather wander a little rather than dive right into an intense technical program. If nothing else, Ithink Berkeley offers access to me that I would otherwise not have in SLO. thanks again

Congrats! Welcome to Bear Territory!

if you know more about the 4+2 program at Cal, can you give me some more info about it?? how about the architecture program at UCLA?

the undergraduate program at cal is unaccredited, which means you probably wont' get an architecture job right after you get out.the next 2 years are accredited though.I have not heard of the UCLA program that much, since it's just started.

^^ er, you can very well get a job right after graduating (and in fact, the average starting salary is barely behind the graduates of Cal Poly's "accredited" program).
