"UCB Transfer Alliance Project" --- where?

The article on SFGate.com (<a href="http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/10/BAGS4JBQN01.DTL&feed=rss.news%5B/url%5D">http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/06/10/BAGS4JBQN01.DTL&feed=rss.news</a>) posted by cccbound explains a couple of students' harsh situations. Now those are extreme circumstances that I believe, whether intelligently or ignorantly, hardly any of us are under.

Well, atleast speaking for myself, I am not eligable for such a program.

i can be high achieving, and i'm disadvantaged in some ways..just not financially..does that count (semi-lol)?

I think if you qualify if you are a low income person/in a low income family (which is assesed through your taxes).

I caught the "low-income and otherwise disadvantaged" line. Very curious as to how they define it; if it's based on taxes (as you said), it still seems like a large amount of standard applicants would qualify for this relatively unknown program. (Basis being that many CCC students hold at least one job to support themselves, qualify for financial aid, etc.)

Any thoughts?

Hmm don't know. My answer to this question is pretty subjective so I choose not to write it.

But anyway, why dwell on it? If it isn't as known as TAP for UCLA, then chances are, it really isn't as significant (granted that it does have a 90% guarantee). People on this forum has gotten into Berkeley without knowing about it, so chill. The closest thing you have as a guarantee (if you don't qualify for this program) is to excel in your academics.

I have not heard of this program before this thread but I can tell you when schools say low income...they mean LOW income. When I was at Saddleback they considered $13,500 their low income line. It is worth checking into but I would guess that if all of you own computers you need not apply. ;)

lol (ten char)...not to mention with internet access...

Okay this might be late but I hope many of you can read this. The TAP program is garbage. Yes they say you have a higher acceptance rate but look at their majors. They are garbage. They are basically all bull***** majors that will get you nothing more than in debt. They have majors like Southeast Asians studies, Urban studies, Russian literature… who the hell is going to higher you because you have one of these degrees. The best I’ve seen from them is Public Health but that pays around 48K. Basically you enter this program thinking you will succeed when you really won’t. And it’s not like Freshman year where you can switch your major. At this point you are going to college just for fun. If you got accepted to 4 year college, take that instead. There you can actually get a decent a major. Even if it’s not from UCLA or Berk, it’s worth it. An engineering degree from any school can help you by a lot. They make about 75k as compared to 48K max and they can essentially land better jobs. Like I said, don’t ruin your life. You will waste 3 years in community college and about another 3 in a UC and for what? You will end up heavily in debt. Believe me. I got rejected from them and was about to apply for the TAP program until I realized that all the majors are garbage.
