Hey everyone, first time poster here.
So, I was just admitted to UCD for biomedical engineering, but since I applied I have changed my focuses to mechanical (appeals to me more). I have two questions:
- I was not really expecting to get in, and I was accepted at University of San Diego (and have committed) with about $30,000 in scholarships. Should I still go there or would UCD be a better choice financially and future wise? (just for the record, full IB Diploma student here, pretty good test scores, pretty good student). I honestly don’t know if UCD has a good engineering program, but USD appears to offer a lot (dual BA/BS and small classes, lots of resources).
- If I choose to go to UCD, will it be easy to change my intended major to ME?
Thanks everyone, really not sure what to do right now!
I think you should stick with UCSD. I don’t know much about this school but I’ve heard they have a good engineering program, plus if you are receiving more money why not? I don’t think it will be too hard to switch since they are both under engineering. But I don’t know it’s your choice. I’m going to UCD by the way.
Not UCSD, USD (university of San Diego), the private one! It’s a lot more expensive because of that, even with aid.
Oh my bad, I read it wrong lol. In that case I have no idea.
Is the USD scholarship for all four years? If so, is the 30k spread out over those four years or do you get 30k each year? If it’s only for the first year, what are your plans for sophomore year on? Is whatever the remaining cost of attendance is affordable for your family for the next four years at least? What’s UCD offering and how affordable is that relative to USD?
Etc. Basically, look into details on your financial aid package at both schools and decide based on that for the financial side of things.
Assuming finances are taken care of either way, I would go with the school that’s a better fit for you.
As to whether it’s easy to switch between engineering majors here, it’s really easy. You just need to fulfill certain courses with a minimum GPA and you’ll automatically be switched in if you file the paperwork. http://mae.ucdavis.edu/changing-majors/
