UCD or UCSD?

Hi everyone! Ok so I’m new to this website so bare with me on this.

I am stressed out to the max in my debate between schools. I believe I have it narrowed down to UC Davis and UC San Diego. I have heard and seen wonderful things about both schools but I can’t seem to make up my mind. I like them both so much! I’m in as an undeclared in the College of Biological Sciences at Davis and I believe undeclared (though I may be bio) in Thurgood Marshall at San Diego.

I love the sciences and I know both schools are good. I also love the animals, which is why I like Davis so much. However, San Diego also has Seaworld and the beach. I’m not a big party person so I want a school that has tons of things to do that don’t involve partying. I really love the idea of Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UCSD but I can also major in bio with an emphasis in marine bio at UCD. The problem is that I really don’t know what I want to major in so I need a school with a ton of options.

I am leaning towards Davis but everyone is telling me San Diego. I was somewhat intimidated of the people at Davis more so than those at San Diego but that could have been a whole college intimidation feeling.

I honestly have no clue and really want some advice, so if you have some, please give it!

oh, and I live in Seattle, so weather would be better where? Though that’s not too big of an issue. I’m more concerned with trying to fit in as an out-of-stater…

Thank you!

def san diego
its a beautiful area and way more prestige

There are alot of threads like this. One of which:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-general/677453-uc-davis-vs-ucsd.html</a>
Although there are alot of Outrageous claims made, they were taken care of by other posters.

ucd has alot of available majors if you choose to switch, and all of their science majors (especially life sciences) are really strong so you do have alot of options at davis. the weather is ultimately better at ucsd seeing as its pretty spring/summer ish year round, however davis has actual seasons: hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and nice in between
i wouldnt say that either school is a real party school. actually from what ive heard ucsd is completely dead to the point of being down right dull. and their are parties at davis, but there are alot of other things that you can get involved in that dont involve partying. they have tons of clubs and school spirit and student involvement is really important their. the town of davis is cute but not too much to do in davis, however sacramento is pretty fun and thats 15 minutes away, and davis is also only a drive away from SF and the other great places of the bay area. they say davis is one of the last true college towns, and thats why im going there next year =]

however i dont know that much about ucsd, it really just depends on what you want out of your college experience

Thank you everyone for your opinions!
Norcallie17, thanks for all your tips on Davis! I feel better about that now! :)

I guess my big problem is that I want to go to Davis but everyone I talk to says that UCSD is better so then I start double-guessing myself. And now I got accepted to UBC (University of British Columbia) with a big enough scholarship that my tuition would be less than 20,000 a year. Too many decisions!!! Anyone have any ideas about UBC?

UCD is a wonderful campus in a college town. The students there have a very high satisfaction rate with their campus experience. Do you ride horses?

Essentially you are deciding between two mid-tier UC’s with strong reputations. One is located near the beach, but on a commuter campus and the other is in a lively college town.

Can you visit, or have you already?

definetly visit both schools!
i personally preferred ucsd over ucd before visiting
but after visiting both schools i just fell in love with davis

i have visited both schools but i got a similar vibe from both schools. However I do ride horses so I really like Davis (course that’s not the only reason i like it more). I feel like my mind is better at UCSD but my body and heart are better at UCD. So as cheesy as it sounds, I’m going with my heart.

I think I’ve decided. UC Davis, class of 2013, here I come! :D

Awesome! Glad that you have decided! I’ll be there next year with you too, and I’m also in the College of Biological Sciences =]
