UCSD or UCD???

Hi everyone! Ok so I'm new to this website so bare with me on this.

I am stressed out to the max in my debate between schools. I believe I have it narrowed down to UC Davis and UC San Diego. I have heard and seen wonderful things about both schools but I can't seem to make up my mind. I like them both so much! I'm in as an undeclared in the College of Biological Sciences at Davis and I believe undeclared (though I may be bio) in Thurgood Marshall at San Diego.

I love the sciences and I know both schools are good. I also love the animals, which is why I like Davis so much. However, San Diego also has Seaworld and the beach. I'm not a big party person so I want a school that has tons of things to do that don't involve partying. I really love the idea of Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UCSD but I can also major in bio with an emphasis in marine bio at UCD. The problem is that I really don't know what I want to major in so I need a school with a ton of options.

I am leaning towards Davis but everyone is telling me San Diego. I was somewhat intimidated of the people at Davis more so than those at San Diego but that could have been a whole college intimidation feeling.

I honestly have no clue and really want some advice, so if you have some, please give it!

oh, and I live in Seattle, so weather would be better where? Though that's not too big of an issue. I'm more concerned with trying to fit in as an out-of-stater...

Thank you!

The weather at UCSD (La Jolla) is often considered the best weather in the country. The ready access to beaches is nice. The ‘idea’ of Scripps is nice but I’m not sure how much interaction you’d have with it as an undergrad. But they do have the Birch aquarium and there’s also Sea World, the SD Zoo, Wild Animal Park for animal related things and if you’re really into it you can get a season pass and visit frequently. You might decide to take up scuba diving and get up close to some of the marine animals and of course, UCSD is right on the coast - you can walk to the beach from it. You could also take up kayaking or sailing.

Both colleges are good so you should do fine at either one.

I don’t see why there’d be an OOS ‘fitting in’ issue at either college since they’re both large and have students from lots of backgrounds.

UCSD definitely has lots to do in the nearby areas without drinking or partying. Go wherever you feel more comfortable - good luck!

Davis has a lot more animals than ucsd for sure lol. But seriously, UCSD Bio is highly impacted ( meaning its extremely difficult to get into the major) so keep note of this. UC Davis is a good school, i think you would fit in better there =)

both schools are great. Although, as far as weather goes, San Diego wins (I know from experience… I grew up in Sacramento before going to ucsd).

There are alot of threads like this. One of which:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-general/677453-uc-davis-vs-ucsd.html</a>
Although there are alot of Outrageous claims made, they were taken care of by other posters.

Thank you everyone!
OoPurestOo, I looked at the other threads but got sick of how competitive some people were getting and the outrageous claims made, but thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah it gets pretty bad. Just don’t base your decision on alot of these threads since alot of people that claim such and such school is BETTER for Bio or whatnot don’t even know what they are talking about.
