UCD tag part time student and missing 1 requirement.

I want to tag this year for fall 2014 with UCD. I read they want students to be full time. Part time students can apply but note why they weren't full time students. I have a job on their site they said that's an acceptable excuse. I'm also missing 1 of 5 pre reqs needed for my major. It's not offered at my college. Their website says if my college doesn't offer it they'll wave it. From what I read it sounds like I can tag but I'm scared I'm pushing it? I don't know if I should tag with UCSC instead? Since I meet all requirements. I'd rather tag with UCD but I'm scared to get denied.

The only requirements to TAG are 2 English classes and 1 math which which every accredited college does offer. Oh and the 60 units and whatever GPA minimum they want and I believe UCD is a 3.2 by the end of summer which is essentially now.

Everything else is simply major prep and depending on what your major is if it is not completed prior to transfer you may or may not be admitted as either a pre major or a full major depending on the university and the department.

You can finish everything else at UCD and it’s not a problem.

The TAG is a guarantee and I listed the requirements above so if you’ve met those you’re good, you can TAG at multiple UC’s if you choose to.

You can only TAG to one UC.

Requirements for tag are the 2 English and 1 math class, the GPA cutoff, and completing ALL major requirements offered by your cc. If your CC does not offer them, then you do not need to complete them. You meet all those requirements. I wouldn’t worry about being a part-time student. The only reason that would go against you is that you didn’t feel like being a full time student, or that you were just to lazy. You’ll get your TAG accepted.

Smltk1505h: Where does it state you can only TAG on UC??

And Robelius: Where does it state that you must complete ALL major requirements offered by your CC? And are you referring to the 18 units in your major necessary to get an AA degree or are you referring to all courses listed on assist.org for the intended major at the intended university?

I’m talking about all major requirements listed on assist.org. I can’t find proof on Davis’s website right now though. If I find some tomorrow, I’ll be sure to update you.

To my knowledge from speaking to at least 3 different counselors those classes are strictly recommended to progress faster in your major once admitted they are in no way required for admittance or for the TAG.

Pulled directly from UC Davis’ TAG information page:

For Matt4200: “May I write a TAG to more than one UC?”

“No. You may submit a UC TAG Application to only one of the seven participating UCs.”

The above information is also provided on all of the TAG application information pages I have glanced at on the individual UC’s websites.

For herstory:

“Who is eligible for a TAG?”

"…Part-time enrollment is permissible for good cause. Provide a brief explanation in the section titled “Additional comments regarding your TAG application” when you submit the UC Davis TAG in September. A UC Davis representative, in consultation with your community college counselor has the sole discretion to make exceptions to the expectation for full-time enrollment. An example of “good cause” would be a student’s need to attend school part-time because s/he is employed."

As you noted in your own post you do meet the requirements: your pre-reqs will be finished except the one not offered at your school, and you have a solid reason for part-time enrollment.

Davis also states on their TAG information page:
“Non-selective majors at UC Davis may not require additional coursework be completed to qualify for TAG, however transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many preparatory courses as possible for their major before enrolling at UC Davis.”

It also states on their website that selective majors need to complete additional coursework (aka the pre-reqs.) If you would like to do a search on the UC Transfer forum and sift through past TAG related posts, you will see that some get their TAG’s approved missing pre-reqs, some get rejected. Besides making sure you meet the 60 unit, math and english, GPA, and hopeful pre-req completion, the rest is out of your control and in the hands of the those approving/rejecting TAGs.

Matt4200: You will see that those missing pre-reqs usually have higher rejection rates. While I can offer no statistical proof, a few hours spent reading past admit/reject threads and you will see a pattern emerge- those with finished/near finished pre-reqs seem to have higher admittance rates than those with little to no pre-reqs completed. Of course, this depends on the school and major.
