I'm looking to major in Animal Science, and Ill be applying to UC Davis and Cal Poly Pomona/San Luis Obispo, among others. Does anyone know how strong their programs are in comparison to one another, or their pros and cons?

I also intend to become a vet - would it be easier, for instance, to get accepted into UCD's vet school if I went to UCD as an undergrad? (I've been told that the CSUs and UCs are friendly with each other, but I think they'd still be biased - I dont remember where I saw it, but most of the people who were accepted into their vet school were from UCD.)

All are strong schools. Davis and SLO are certainly more selective and well-known than pomona, however. It actually doesn't help to go to davis' undergrad program as far as getting into their vet program(other than getting a great education). The reason they have so many davis grads in their program is beacuse so many davis grads apply there.

When I was at UC Davis 20 years ago, approx. 2/3 of each incoming class at the vet school were usually drawn from just 2 undergraduate schools: UC Davis itself and Cal Poly Pomona, because both schools were known for their strong Animal Science departments. SLO always lagged behind Pomona. I don't know whether that is still true today, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

In the past decade, slo has become much more selective than pomona. Admissions:

slo- 3.9, 1240
pomona- 3.0, 1000

I'd be surprised if that 2/3 statistic were still true.
