<p>I love love love love love UCI. I love the atmosphere, the school, the campus, the things to do, the people, the community but they don’t offer my major. Or I hear their art program really sucks and they don’t exactly offer design.</p>
<p>So my parents have convinced me to attend Davis. I’ve been to Davis before and was not too impressed but that was about two years ago. I dislike hot hot sticky weather. I’ll miss the ocean. I’m not fond of cows. Plus, too many people from my high school will be going. It’s a yearly trend at my school. It’s about 2 hours from home.</p>
<p>I would like to major in Design and/or Communication, Media studies. Which of these two schools are better for my major?</p>
<p>I’ll probably end up at Davis but I probably won’t be as happy as if I attended UCI.</p>
<p>And if I decide to attend Davis, how will I get to double major? I’m currently listed as Undeclared- Social Science. And do you need a portfolio for the design major?</p>

<p>PLEASE don't come to Davis. Go to Irvine. Tell your parents its YOUR education. Sooner or later, you'll come back here and say "davis sucks."</p>

<p>I personally wouldn't let my parents let me pick or convince me where I should attend college. It's not a power trip or anything; it's just your decision!!!</p>
<p>You said you "love love love love love UCI." Well, I feel the same way about UCD because of the college town atmosphere, the people you'll meet, the laid back and cool feel, etc. Those are my reasons, but you sound set on UCI. You'll need to decide if majoring in design is worth not going to UCI.</p>
<p>I'm just saying that this is your decision. UCD is awesome and I'm sure UCI is great too (though I didn't apply there personally.) Go to the school that you feel is right. Others, even parents, can tell you what YOU feel is right! Best of luck.</p>
<p>You need to decide what you are more passionate about, UCI or Design. I was recently on the Davis web-site, specifically the Design major area. I was wowed by the program. If I could go back to college, I would go there and do that major. It is really interesting how they have integrated graphics, textiles, and art/architecture history. Have you visited the web-sites for the two schools to compare the majors? I would also contact the department heads and spend some time finding out more about what is available for your interests. Perhaps Irvine does not suck as much as people say. If it does, you will quickly figure that out. Is there any way to visit both schools and see for yourself? If design is your passion, you may find yourself so inspired by what is at UCD (truly cutting edge) that you will be able to overcome your other reservations. The design program at UCD used to require a portfolio, but no longer does. Some areas of their web-site are not updated so you may find that confusing. Go specifically to the design major to find the most current infomation.
