I just got admitted to UCD for economics. I was wondering if going to UCD is a bad idea for becoming something business related for undergrad. I was also thinking of switching into managerial economics. How hard is it to switch into and how can I do it? Thanks!

Have you submitted your SIR yet? I saw you posting on the UCSD thread.

if you got into the economic program then it wouldn’t be hard to move around anything economics related… it’s only hard if you were to go from economics major to english major. Something drastic like that. You should be fine, but as for business… not quite sure.

Oh sorry I was posting this on behalf of my friend! Haha They were wondering and didn’t have a CC account! But I’m not sure if it’s a bad idea for them to go to UCD because they want to go into something business related and get their MBA.

Oh. :)

Well, I’ve read in some posts by some of the people in the UCSD forum, and they said that you can pretty much major in anything and still get an MBA. So getting a degree in economics would be perfectly viable if you’re looking to get a business-y job in the future.

There’s also a wealth of pre-professional fraternities and sororities you can get involved with to find others who are also pursuing a career in business. I know off the top of my head that there are co-ed business fraternities at UCD such as Alpha Kappa Psi and Delta Sigma Pi that hold lots of helpful networking events and business education endeavors for their members.

no, changing majors is only generally hard if you’re switching into engineering from english, or something like that. engineering is pretty strict requirement wise so they want to make sure you have everything under control before you declare it.
i entered as a biological sciences major, took classes as if i were an econ major for 5 quarters (this is my 6th quarter) and just changed my major and college from biosci in the college of biosci to econ in the college of letters and science. easy. hardest part was biking around campus to get the signatures in the correct order.
and the hard part isn’t changing your major itself, it’s being set back since your requirements completely change
