UCF vs. UF for CS.

Hey guys,

I'd like to hear some opinions on which school is better for Computer Science? I've looked at old threads and they've had mixed opinions so I thought I'd make a new one. Basically, I will get my Bachelor's in CS and then hopefully get a Masters at GTech, Michigan, or the like.

I decided to stay in-state because of the prices.

I am currently a computer science major at UCF.
I don’t know about UF, but with UCF a lot of the CS professors are research professors. This can be a good thing because their courses are more challenging, but sometimes they may not be the best at teaching the material. I would say go for UF. It’s a nationally ranked school, can’t beat that.

I’m also an in-state student, but I chose UCF to do my CS degree next year. A lot of my friends have gone to but UF and UCF for their Comp Sci degrees, and ultimately, although UF is -ranked- higher, as far as I’ve seen, that’s only because the school is older, and therefore more ‘prestigious.’ My friends emerging from UCF have much larger and more diverse portfolios, which becomes really important when trying to get into the graduate school of your choice. In that way, UCF is better, but it does come down to where you’re happier. As long as you do a good job, you should get into the school you want, no matter where you go.
