@GCblahblah it’s true - one of our spawns is now a first year.
is there an FB page for accepted students???
if we were deferred and apply ED II, do you think that it will significantly help the application?

ED or EA?
Did someone say that UChicago defers instead of rejecting? Or is it just that everyone who got deferred is posting and rejections aren’t being posted? This makes it so much harder to gauge chances if deferral is the norm…
@stockphotohumor If UChicago remains your top choice, you must convert deferral to EDII. Its the only to go. Last year RD was about 2%.
Accepted. ED.
Anyone applied from Pakistan?
I understand your son, but he should understand that it is always random. Last year I was waitlisted from RD, this year rejected from EA with higher stats, better essays and more EC’s. In my case, I think it was because of wrong match. I read about CS department after I applied, and I found that I don’t want to study there. May be they understood it from my essays, I thought that I won’t attend even if admitted.
I saw people asking for stats… I normally would never do this on principle but if it is helpful for some of you then I will! I’ll try to keep this vague so people who know me can’t find me.
Accepted; ED
34 ACT, 800 US History Subject Test, 740 Literature Subject Test, five 5’s on APs, one 4 (also taking 4 APs this year).
4.04 UW gpa (4.7 W but every school does it differently so idk how helpful that is)
class rank: n/a
didn’t apply for financial aid
white female
intended major: neuroscience, classics, or philosophy
few big awards (gold medals on the national latin exams, ap scholar w/ distinction, national history day)
i think my recs were good idk i couldn’t read them but i got an addt’l rec from a surgeon i interned for and i think that was really helpful
my essays were okay - i actually hate my college essay, but my supplements read well. If you guys notice me from before in this thread… I had some “essay regret” about my answer to the UChicago uncommon question, but now I actually really really like it b/c it was personal.
extracurriculars: i don’t want to say these b/c i don’t want anyone to find me on here hahahahah but i think they’re strong i’m involved in a lot of councils, political campaigns, and captain of a sports team, stuff like that
my advice for you guys is this:
Sometimes this site is great for reassurance, but most of the time it puts you on edge for no reason. I wouldn’t take my credentials as a reason to apply or not to apply - each applicant definitely isn’t viewed with the same set of criteria.
If you’re an underclassmen and you’re thinking about college/reading this thread: enjoy high school! And also - before you go on college visits, make sure you have a general idea of what you’re looking for in college. I planned to ED to Brown since like I was 11 yrs/o because someone randomly said I would love it there, and since then I’d always thought of Brown when I thought about college. I’m not joking when I say I had Brown’s acceptance rate written on my whiteboard for 4 years… it was hard to erase off. I literally had my ED application ready for Brown, and then took a random visit to see UChicago and Northwestern 1 month before early apps were due. I fell in LOVE with UChicago, and felt a real gut-feeling when I was there - that this was going to be my home. I didn’t get that on my visits to Brown. When I saw UChicago, I realized what I wanted out of college and how I want to spend the next four years of my life. I did the smartest thing I could’ve done for myself, and listened to my instinct. Probably one of the few times in my life I’ve been decisive. So my advice is to draft a bullet-pointed list of what you want out of college and hunger for that on your college visits. Don’t look for what school will be more impressive when you make it your Facebook status, or which one has a prettier campus (although campus is a pretty important factor, ngl). If you read this far, thanks for listening to my rant!! I hope this was helpful.
Best of luck to you guys, you all deserve to go to amazing places You’ll end up where you’re supposed to be.
Definitely considering applying ED2 since UChicago remains my top choice, however I hate to stay committed to a place likely to waitlist me in the Spring.
@VegasRoller no, they actually do look at your app again so it’s not over. Not sure how ED/ED II to RD deferrals worked last year, but I heard something about only 2% of EA to RD deferrals getting accepted.
@ilovebooks123 yes, it should help. The EA deferral to ED II acceptance rate is probably a lot higher than the 2% acceptance rate for EA applicants who got deferred and didn’t switch to ED II
@YoungOne4 there seem to be quite a few deferrals based on CC, but they definitely reject a lot of people too. You’re right though, it’s hard to see what actually happened-they don’t release stats till next fall. Regardless, there are others like me who got deferred and waitlisted before getting in, so don’t give up until it’s over!
Question about EDII: what are the possible outcomes from that? Can you be deferred again to the regular pool? Waitlisted? Or just binary admit or reject?
From EDII the outcomes are accept, waitlist or reject.
How do I access my financial aid money now that I am accepted. I don’t see it on the portal. Please help! Thank you!
You can call Fin. Aid. and ask them when awards will be available.
Son (legacy) was accepted EA.
Stats: 4.47 Weighted GPA, 35 ACT, 1550 SAT, 800 SAT Subject Math 2, 800 SAT Subject Chemistry, AP Exams: 5 in English Lang, Spanish Lang, Chemistry, World History, European History. 4 in AP Calc BC and US History. National merit semifinalist. Main extracurricular: Debate w/ numerous awards.
He did an off-campus interview and that went reasonably well. He thinks admissions was more willing to admit him due to legacy status but can’t be 100% positive there b/c UChicago is opaque about how much legacy factors in.
Not sure if it’s just the make up of the group reading and posting on CC but there does seem to be a lot more EA accepts this year. Last year seemed to be all ED with a ton of EA-deferreds. All this is anecdotal of course, but it does beg the question as to whether UChicago accepted a higher proportion EA this year. Last year was about 800 EDI and 400 EA in the early round.
There could also have been more EA applications than ED applications this year. Our family chose EA because we didn’t want to be constrained by a binding agreement. We truly wanted to look across all the offers and go with the best package considering the financial aspect. We chose to apply EA to UChicago because it was non-binding and nonrestrictive - unlike Yale’s EA. In our geographic area we know very few families who were willing to be constrained by ED.
Hey guys, I was differed under EA and I would like to let UChicago know about my new accomplishments. How do my new recommenders sent their letters of recommendation seeing as we’re not using the Common App anymore? Is there another link?
The only other way I can think of is me adding their recommendations to my portal, which would mean that I have also read them.
Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks.
