Which state are you in? My daughter only received a scarf
@Tennisboy2022 You have to request an interview through an online link on your portal. Then, if there is a local alum who has time to do an interview, that person will contact you directly. That was our experience, anyway.
For those of us who applied EA and got deferred, I know I sound late to the party but considering all the discussion on various UChicago threads about the massive marketing effort to boost ED/EA/RD applications in order to make acceptance rates look so low, were those of us who applied EA and got deferred only deferred so the RD acceptance rate looks even lower? Or do we have a shot?
I mean, were any ED and EA applicants actually rejected?
^^That’s the big question. Surely some WERE rejected. But why would a college reject most when it can defer? Last year there was quite an interesting range of stats for those deferred (at least based on what they were reporting here).
Does anyone know when they will be conducting interviews until?
I know a few people were rejected EA. Maybe a lot were deferred, but I don’t think they’d defer anyone that didn’t have a shot as they already get a lot of applications in the RD round and I don’t think they’d just increase their workload of reading more apps by deferring people who had no shot.
@bookluver04, my son’s email says “I am reaching out to offer you the opportunity to participate in a prospective student interview with me via Skype sometime between now and Sunday, February 4.” Whether or not February 4th is an admissions office deadline, or has to do with this interviewer’s availability, I wouldn’t know. He received this email last Tuesday (1/23).
@bookluvr04 For timing purposes, my S submitted his EA application on October 30, and after UChicago sent an email confirming receipt and w/directions for setting up a portal, he followed the link in the portal to request an interview. The local alum who interviewed him sent him an email around November 20 or so. They had their interview about a week later. BUT: I have read over and over again on the UChicago site and other places that getting an interview only boils down to there being a local alum who is available, such that nothing should be read into getting an interview and neither should anything be read into not getting an interview (the AO will not hold that against you).
@booklady123 @YoungOne4 Thank you!
Still unclear to me, however, how he got an interview without requesting one. I was looking for some rhyme or reason, but it appears there isn’t any.
Plentiful local alumni willing to do interviews.
My D, accepted EA, just got a $10K/yr Merit scholarship on 2/1 (yay!) Since National Merit hasn’t named finalists yet, do you think she’ll get more later if she is named a NM finalist?
@Kathy V, can you tell us more details about the 10k scholarship? Did it come as part of her FA package or is it something different? That’s very exciting! Congrats to her.
@KathyV - yes on the NMF. She needs to list UChicago as her first choice by 3/1 to be first in line. Then she’ll get an additoinal $2,000 per year (it might be less - not sure how UChicago stacks the merit).
Congrats to her!
Why does UChicago waitlist SO many people instead of rejecting them?
So if I havent received an interview request by now does that mean I should expect not to get one at all?
UChicago sents the likely letters to RD applicants last Friday. Congratulations to those who received it
@MaybeHarvard2022 having an interview or not doesn’t mean much
@newHSmom where did you get that info about the likely letters?
@newHSmom Did they send them by mail or email?
